So, how do we coordinate a mass account deletion? Like... I am rapidly losing any interest in being here. I will probably leave soon, and will definitely do so if it's part of mass action.

Fuck it. Trans folks need MATERIAL SUPPORT. @distributeaid.org is launching an HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit that provides 1 year of medical supplies needed to take injection-based HRT. We were planning to go live in January, but I'm not waiting. Fund the kits here: distributeaid.org/hrt-harm-red...

BlueSky is trying to monetize so let's show them some numbers: Reskeet this if you refuse to pay for BlueSky+ until trust & safety decides to prioritize marginalized users. That's $96 / year of lost revenue for each reskeet...

I read a post hypothesing BlueSky is keeping a certain asshole "journalist" on the platform for fear of legal retribution. This scans. But so does making sure we keep the pressure on to make sure said "journalist" is kept on a tight fucking leash. (Which it looks like he might already be breaking)

kinda feel like the Bsky team won't listen to trans users about this, so I'll say it as a Cis Person: I don't want Jesse Singal on here spreading his lying hateful "just asking questions" bullshit. he is not acting in good faith, he causes active harm, and he adds nothing worthwhile to this platform

So much of parenting is just straight up bullying, echoed endlessly across the generations. A Mark of Cain, ripping across all of us, never dwindling, never diminishing. And we will never be better until the cycle is broken completely. We have only begun this work in the last 70 or so years.

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

Misogyny and bigotry go hand in hand - because Bigotry is hard. It tends to crumble when you meet people from the out group and find them relatable. Misogyny lets you practice holding on to bigotry in the face of someone you see every day - your mother, sister, or aunt. Misogyny is practice.

23 years ago, Enron declared bankruptcy. It was a huge story, spawning reams and reams of exhaustive coverage. It seems so quaint now. Since that one company collapsed due to fraud and mismanagement, we've since seen the *entire economy* do the same thing. We normalized *Enron*.

I'm not particularly superstitious, but I do hold on to this one irrationality: the burning of the goat DOES matter. My argument is that it hasn't burned for years now and shit keeps getting steadily worse. It was eaten by crows last year, but clearly that wasn't good enough.
A straw goat several meters tall, surrounded by a wooden fence.

I am pretty convinced that the current ad market is rife with scammers making ads, and then different scammers *engaging with ads* to manipulate profits. I have no evidence for this, beyond a gut hunch that things don't get so profoundly fucked up and ineffective without some kind of feedback loop.

man, Carl Sagan really had our number.
I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few… and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true…we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness. The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition…… but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.
