And so it continues... Our economic debates seem utterly disconnected from the reality. That reality: This is an economy mostly creating healthcare jobs, and it does so month after month, and everything else is just noise.
Line chart titled "Effectively all of the net job creation has been in healthcare and social assistance, and jobs are shrinking in the rest of the economy" showing change in non-farm payrolls since January 2025 through September 2026. Healthcare and social assistance added 998,000 jobs with consistent growth throughout the period, while the rest of the economy lost 222,000 jobs, meaning all net job creation came from healthcare. The rest of the economy showed particular weakness from May through August 2025 when losses reached 218,000 jobs. This striking divergence reveals an unusual concentration where one sector's growth of roughly 48,000 jobs per month has offset persistent contraction across all other industries combined.

Watch what you invite into your awareness. Not every noise or headline requires your attention. Just as you would be selective about the company you keep, be selective about the information you consume. By choosing what to attend to, you cultivate a steadier mind and a more settled presence.

This is correct but doesn’t quite engage with why private schools remain popular. Fundamentally most state schools aren’t set up very well to deal with two high grade professional career career families.

In April last year I published two articles about Barbados-born 1880s Liverpool, London, travelling, boxer Felix Scott. I wasn't the first, but I believe I'm the first to look at him in detail, and particularly at his personal life. His great, and now a great great, grandson have been in touch...
A very fuzzy badly scanned photo from a 1900s newspaper showing boxers in the ring at Liverpool International Hall - one Black (George White, S. Africa) and one white (Johnny James, Liverpool) - and several trainers/cornermen including Felix Scott. Caption notes he is well-known and once met Dick Burge and Lachie Thompson

Mataeology [mat-ee-OL-uh-jee] (n.) - Vain, useless, or unprofitable discourse; foolish or fruitless talk. From Greek “mataiologia” (idle or foolish talk), from “mataios” (vain, idle, futile, foolish) + “-logia” (discourse, speaking)
A "Grandiloquent Word of the Day" meme for “Mataeology,” defined as “vain, useless, or unprofitable discourse; foolish or fruitless talk.” The example sentence reads: “After two hours of droning mataeology on subjects ranging from municipal drainage to his own digestive peculiarities, poor Cordelia Crownut resolved that this would be the last date entrusted to her mother’s matrimonial judgment.” At right, a Victorian illustration shows a young woman seated beside an elderly, gentleman who appears to have fallen asleep while she gazes away with a weary, resigned expression.
