It's a perfect day to tell SDOT to pedestrianize Barbara Bailey Way (were the Sunday farmers market sets up in Capitol Hill). Come get your market goods and then pop into the open house just around the corner.

Imagine Barbara Bailey Way not as a queue for idling, often speeding, vehicles but as a permanent place for people walking and rolling between Cal, light rail, and the small businesses that hug the plaza. COME TO THE LOW POLLUTION OPEN HOUSE THIS SUNDAY 09/27.

@centralseattlestreetsforall.org has been out talking with neighbors about an exciting opportunity to pedestrianize Barbara Bailey Way. Let’s be sure to show up this Sunday and express that! Put it in your phone calendar or, if you’re a wall calendar girlie like me, mark it for Sunday Sept 27 1-4 pm

Hey @transportation.seattle.gov what’s going on with the RRFBs at 15th Ave E and E Harrison St? It’s not clear for people walking whether you’re discouraging use of this crossing (assuming this sign blockage was put up by the department).

Pedestrianizing Barbara Bailey Way, that stretch bordering the north end of Cal Anderson park where the Sunday Famers Market sets up, would be an easy way to improve the neighborhood. If you’re already there for your market goods on 9/27, stop in and tell @transportation.seattle.gov we want this.

Large non-market vehicles not only crowd out limited space on Pike Place, they also use valuable curb space on 1st Ave that could be used for business and customer access. Not to mention these large vehicles towering over storefronts, making it harder for people to discover Market businesses.

It seems weird because it is weird. But it's also infuriating especially for people who emphasize in survey after survey how wildly baseline keeping cars out of the market is.

We need a police chief who understands that traffic safety is public safety. It’ll be ideal also if they can help some local media outlets 👀 @seattletimes.com 👀 see why bold moves to improve public transportation and speed up Vision Zero projects is actually newsworthy.

And yet when we push electeds to address dangerous driver behavior with better infra for people outside cars, some of the loudest voices against safer streets cite the “selfish,” “entitled,” or “special interests” of a few as if driving a car recklessly through a city isn’t somehow entitled.

The Seattle Streets Alliance has published an action alert urging Seattle to take three actions to improve street safety, two specific interventions and one systemic change. Supporters can sign on to the ideas and send letters to city leaders. Daylight every intersection SDOT touches SDOT image adapted from a graphic by Lancaster, PA. Oops @seattledot.bsky.social looks like your own officials can’t see the flashing beacons newly (and poorly) installed at 12th and Alder. You can’t invite pedestrians into what appears to be a safe crossing without addressing street features that lead to chronic driver speed.

@seattledot.bsky.social confirmed this ped island, featuring flashing beacons, is complete. Can you see them? Safe to assume drivers can’t either. Anyone who uses 12th Ave, esp between E Yesler and E Cherry, knows how chronically divers speed here. This is supposed to be the thing that slows them.
