A lot of people are dunking on this, but there has been a lot of boiler-room type behavior to sign up people for ACA plans, especially in Florida, with people sometimes unaware what they were signing up for. Bloomberg reported on the practice here: www.bloomberg.com/features/202...

US friends - serious Q - what is the supposed fraud here? Can an insured person cash out their subsidised premiums? Can an Obamacare account be used for ID fraud? Why is no-one being prosecuted. Are these claims really as stupid as people say?

There is literally no statistical evidence that this is a growing trend, it’s just that social media exists and people talk about it more. (Which I would expect will lead to more people doing it, but I have no evidence for this view!)

There is IMO something absolutely spot on about the British ruling class not at all recognising that smashing up the state to sell it for scrap and cocaine might be a problem, until it started to somewhat impede their ability to wage a really serious war.
I've spent a few weeks asking people if Britain is prepared for war, among other doom scenarios. The short answer is no and the condensed reason for why that happened is that we spent the last forty years stripping off and selling the most resilient systems in the country for parts.

We’re at the “shipping container courts” stage of ICE’s mass expansion of the enforcement system.
Each detention unit would sit on asphalt or concrete behind an office's existing security fence, with a counter for processing people and a separate holding area fitted with a toilet and sink for detainees according to the draft work statement.
The agency also wants a 300-square-foot unit for interviewing people in custody and a 60-square-foot "Virtual Immigration Court Unit" for hearings run by the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Justice Department agency that operates the immigration courts.
Both must also be designed for their purpose before delivery.

Extract from the government fact sheet on this asylum site:
Mandatory security checks are conducted on all people seeking asylum through linking their biometric data to immigration, security, and criminality databases. This includes criminality checks for, amongst other things, convictions, pending prosecutions, wanted or missing reports, as well as
fingerprints and photographs. These checks are critical to the delivery of a safe and secure immigration system.

Thomas Edison in 1910. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves on this net zero business, lads
Someday some fellow will invent a way of concentrating and storing sunshine to use instead of this old, absurd Prometheus scheme of fire.
I'll do the trick myself if someone doesn't get at it....
This scheme of combustion in order to get power makes me sick to think of—it is so wasteful.... We should utilize natural forces and thus get all of our power. Sunshine is a form of energy, and the winds and the tides are manifestations of energy. Do we use them? Oh no; we burn up wood and coal, as renters burn up the front fence for fuel.
We live like squatters, not as if we owned the property. There must surely come a time when heat and power will be stored in unlimited quantities in every community, all gathered by natural forces. Electricity ought to be as cheap as oxygen, for it cannot be destroyed.
Now, I am not sure but that my new storage battery is the thing. 167
