Yep. The Texas GOP perfectly captures what the Trump-era GOP writ large has become, but it also shows how this politics is creating space for something better to emerge on the liberal-Democratic side.

What people fail to understand is also that Zionism was not just a plan/ideology for Jews in Palestine, it was also a vision for Jewish *diasporic* identity. Much of Zionist activity has always taken place outside Palestine/Israel and was about communal identity and politics. Hence the attachment.

In Australia the big councils with well paid full time councillors are much better run. Here in Brisbane their pay is set just below state MPs. Currently AUD 185k a year.

Yeah, it possibly doesn't help that we've also built a system where the rewards of being a councillor are so poor that only the terminally ambitious or those with ludicrous amounts of free time would do it. A system in which the main route to becoming a councillor is who delivers the most leaflets

A lot of people are dunking on this, but there has been a lot of boiler-room type behavior to sign up people for ACA plans, especially in Florida, with people sometimes unaware what they were signing up for. Bloomberg reported on the practice here: www.bloomberg.com/features/202...

US friends - serious Q - what is the supposed fraud here? Can an insured person cash out their subsidised premiums? Can an Obamacare account be used for ID fraud? Why is no-one being prosecuted. Are these claims really as stupid as people say?

There is IMO something absolutely spot on about the British ruling class not at all recognising that smashing up the state to sell it for scrap and cocaine might be a problem, until it started to somewhat impede their ability to wage a really serious war.
I've spent a few weeks asking people if Britain is prepared for war, among other doom scenarios. The short answer is no and the condensed reason for why that happened is that we spent the last forty years stripping off and selling the most resilient systems in the country for parts.

We’re at the “shipping container courts” stage of ICE’s mass expansion of the enforcement system.
Each detention unit would sit on asphalt or concrete behind an office's existing security fence, with a counter for processing people and a separate holding area fitted with a toilet and sink for detainees according to the draft work statement.
The agency also wants a 300-square-foot unit for interviewing people in custody and a 60-square-foot "Virtual Immigration Court Unit" for hearings run by the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Justice Department agency that operates the immigration courts.
Both must also be designed for their purpose before delivery.

That’s an arrogant tweet about a High Court judge’s ruling after a 5 hour hearing. And since the PC’s decision was to allow the march to go ahead with condtions, why wouldn’t the High Court have jurisdiction to suspend the decision to let it go ahead?
