Weirdest coup of all time. Well no one can say this place isn’t relevant anymore

People in say Germany clearly think of people from France as a different category to people from Morocco (and are just as psycho as Brits about people from Morocco). Brits just don’t, Nigeria or France they’re all foreign keep em out. Which approach is more racist, discuss

(There are lots of British people quoting this with variations on “having complex feelings about the death penalty shows how barbaric America is” and that’s pretty naive about our country. It famously had majority support in the UK until recently. *Political elites* hate it, lots of Brits like it)

I am against the death penalty on principle but I acknowledge that if it was Hitler, Anders Breivik or Rose West you might find prison staff perfectly comfortable just shooting them in the head with a gun, though I think that’s still net bad. If you’re not comfortable with that, don’t do it.

I think it is straightforwardly true that lots of people watched lots of unredacted footage from Gaza in a way that just wasn’t possible wrt Rwanda or Bosnia and it caused serious mental health issues in some and sent others spiralling into political extremism Thing is that’s bad

IMO dock them 100 points with an additional 100 points suspended and fine them a billion so it’s impossible for them to comply with PSR bc 2x their revenue goes in fines and the next 100 points is triggered

Peter Magyar is currently enacting a Liberal Currents fantasy where he amends the constitution to ban anyone associated with the old regime from ever holding office again and is somehow polling at 68% (he won with 53%) and I’m not saying that’s possible anywhere else but Dems should like, ask him

This is something that gets missed I think. In an ideal world the league would like the most successful clubs to be 1. United 2. Liverpool (Slight gap mostly bc Africa is poorer than Asia) 3. Arsenal (Big gap) 4. Chelsea 5. ….Wrexham (HUUGE gap) 6. City

It’s not even like they’re good for the bottom line, Arsenal, Liverpool and (above all) United are the giant global fanbases that sell the shirts and tv subs. You want *them* back on top

As a purely factual matter, is it in fact protected by the US constitution to breach court anonymisation and expose the identity of a sexual assault complainant? Because that’s completely insane

The Bourne movies (which are brilliant btw) are a real insight into edpol and how different the left was in the 2000s. It’s the 2007 version of resist fanfic except it’s incredibly conspiratorial, the career deep state people are evil and the politicians find out and shut down their scheme

Thing is this theory isn’t… obviously insane? The idea is to deter us arming Ukraine. That evidently is not working.

This includes sixth formers and you know what, go for it, if you want to try to force 17 year olds to have mandatory singing assemblies where their teachers attempt to persuade them to sing All Things Bright and Beautiful in front all their friends, that will if nothing else be very funny

I kind of think this is the monoculture. I am a person in my 20s, I’ve never seen eastenders etc etc, but every summer there are gigs at Wembley and I can tell because scrolling instagram, every single one is attended by 5 or more people I went to school with, independently

I do feel extremely sorry for this guy who for the crime of misunderstanding how American universities work (for Americans reading, many other countries have no concept of minors, you only take classes in what your degree is in), is being dogpiled like he said history classes are evil

I am reiterating my pet theory that the reason Bond casting is taking so long is any conceivable criteria for who it should be leads you to ROBERT PATTINSON in big red letters then about 3 blank pages before your second choice, but he won’t do it

Tbh this seems a fairly unfair criticism, the premier league is not a law enforcement agency and can’t execute search warrants, it’s a private entertainment business, if clubs file false accounts what can you do

I think I have a reverse one, the self-imposed restriction apparently relatively common at large British companies that all candidates must be asked the same questions in the same order at interview to preclude any lawsuits due to bias via easier questions being asked

I broadly agree but I’m genuinely not taking the piss - this is reverse racism and the bigotry of low expectations against white people, who Shabana Mahmood thinks are deeply bigoted and liable to lose control of their senses and descend into base violence if people try to explain things to them

I really think this must be an American thing because the case for appears to be that “you are not supposed to be eating or drinking at a certain level of serious meeting with serious people” and somewhat famously tea and biscuits are provided at meetings of the British Cabinet

Ladies and gentlemen, we got em
Manchester City have been found guilty on almost all of the charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations.
The sanctions have not been decided, with all possibilities remaining on the table, and City are expected to appeal.
City have been found guilty on all but one of the 115 charges, according to sources briefed on the matter who spoke anonymously as they were not authorised to do so publicly.
A City spokesperson told The Athletic:
"The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC's position remains consistent with the club's statement of February 2023.
"The club has diligently respected

We’ve all learned in the last year is the true mark of the elite class is talking to your friends and family via email. I don’t think I’ve ever sent an email that isn’t for some formal purpose or forwarding important documents. Even colleagues, chatting is via WhatsApp, email is strictly business

This is my favourite stupid history claim, yes historically there were many more public holidays, largely in compensation for the fact that the first recorded use of the word weekend is in 1879

This argument (Kisin’s not Sunder’s) is so profoundly stupid because the “British not English” formulation is almost literally unique to England in making any sense. Is Humza Yousaf British but not Scottish? Good luck telling him that. Is Kylian Mbappé French but not Parisian?

I understand there’s a higher bar to VONC for a chancellor than a British PM but genuinely, is it any more survivable in practice for your party to make clear they don’t want you anymore? It’s not like Starmer ever faced a formal legal attempt to remove him by parliament

Funny thing is Spanish media does about *their own elections*. The PP is commonly referred to in Spain - more so than in English coverage - as having “won” the 2023 election, after which their opponents formed government

Again it’s a very very funny insight into Bluesky that you can make an argument which takes *as a first principle* the nonexistence of souls, by extension the afterlife and presumably god, and get dogpiled exclusively by hardline anti LLM people
