I also wonder whether you also had an issue of oversupply as things eased up. There had been such extensive state-led investment in agriculture during the War so that we could produce more of our essential foods ourselves, which could have left a glut of bland food that everyone needed

This is undoubtedly true and I think a lot of companies have bet heavily on IP on the mistaken understanding that there are "forever" characters or acts, when they're subject to quite rapid decay.

I agree. The current generation often forgets that early New Labour, in part, emerged from 80s soft left revisionism. I would also add that a lot of Labour MPs who self-desribe as soft left are probably more accurately described as soft right.

A key difference between "scrap the Triple Lock so Social Care is cheaper/fairer" and "scrap the Winter Fuel Duty because rich pensioners don't need it" is that the implicit argument of the former, is that you're only taking something away to give the same people something better.

Not had chance to watch Burnham's speech yet, but the response it's receiving does show that Starmer's self-pity was nonsense. People are desperately willing Labour to succeed and will happily lavish praise on anything they do that's even a little bit good

This is why the overwhelming logic for Labour is to put rejoining the EU without a referendum in the manifesto. Cameron and Wilson were using promises of referendums to unite a voter coalition divided by Europe, Burnham would be using Europe to unite a voter coalition divided by other issues

Yeah...I would try to move the conversation on from the Triple-Lock by actually raising the alarm about the very different cohort of pensioners who are about to retire. We need to rethink what retirement looks like in a world with so many privately renting & having smaller/more distant families

Just in shock about PAC. To have been just watching him yesterday and singing his praises, as I do every single time I see him, then to wake up to such horrible news. I only met him once, but honestly what stood out above all else was how quiet, humble, and kind he was. No one had a bad word.

Bloody hell, the first bit of news I've seen today and it's kicked my legs right out from under me. PAC was one hell of a wrestler - hard hitting, athletic, innovative - and just oozed charisma from every pore. He had a PPV match the day before where he was at his best.
