the sense of generational entitlement from conservative parents has been a really strong factor in Trumpism - the rage that their children are not replicas of them and their beliefs, of being told no, of being left behind.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

They have explicitly said they want to control the flow of knowledge. This is ACTUALLY an idea landlord, not an author wanting to be paid for their labor. Why might a private company destroy a book with few existing copies? The answer is certainly not the rights of readers. You’re the product.

I have seen a lot of people going “well knowledge institutions have this backlog; the companies are doing us a favor by scanning.” 1. There are zero ethical standards at play in these companies. 2. They don’t intend to keep any of those books’ ideas separate. 3. They’re devaluing labor.

A friend reached out this evening to request clarification on an AI apologist’s talking point, and it’s worth reiterating: Digitizing is a process librarians, archivists, and curators understand to preserve the information inside a book as a unique entity. What these bros are doing is destroying.

*whispers* you know we can do this cultural debate about art thing all the time, right? Websites and news organizations used to have culture critics on staff whose entire job was writing about books, movies, and TV. People read them and then discussed them. We have the technology to do this again.

This has always been the case. “Go Woke, Get Broke” has always been clownish untruth. No movie has ever failed because of Black folks, POC, LQBTQ+, or women. There are a myriad of other reasons why some movies fail to connect. But bigoted chuds don’t have that kind of power.

Speaking ill of the dead is morally good, required, even. Any moral system must be able to pronounce negative judgements on someone’s life (Deontological). It brings a lot of happiness to others after the evil one is dead (Utilitarian). It encourages people to live better lives (Virtue).

More of this framing, please. The ability to think and work across multiple domains, professional and otherwise, is the whole point of a liberal arts education. If graduates in any major can build a career in a field they never imagined at 19, that's a strength, not a failure of vocational training.

The interviewer sweats as he witnesses and evil aura with ominous humming noises emotting from the resume. The interviewer now finds himself trapped in the gap in the resume.
