Last night SO and I had a *discussion* about where the solar panels on our roof actually are. Finally told him to go outside and look up at the roof. Guess what? They're right where I told him they were! Now he's unhappy because he can't blame the location for issues with his ham radio antenna🙄.

SO is so totally ambivalent/uninterested in popular culture - he's not sure who Taylor Swift is, for example - just looked at someone in the stands at the Yankee game and informed me that "Spike Lee goes to a lot of Yankee games". I knew he looked familiar.

Yesterday and today have proved that, for me at least, there is indeed crying in baseball. Verlander's retirement was emotional. Mike Krukow's was heart-wrenching; I saw him pitch in 1988 and 1989, and listened to him for 36 years as a broadcaster. He is amazing and entertaining - a favorite uncle.

Nor'easter has been pretty much a nothing burger for us so far. We've had rain enough to make a difference on the river level, but no high wind or torrential rain. We're in a lull now until about 9 pm when rain is forecast to be heavy. Apparently having flashlights and batteries deflects the storm.

Because of tomorrow's impending bad weather both the Red Sox and Yankees are playing double-headers today. Always surprises me how sports teams can turn on a dime to preserve the season; makes me wonder how they manage the ticketing. If both games are included in 1 ticket - how does that work?

It was cooler last night, 42°F, and raining, and the battery in the smoke detector above my bed decided it was a great time to start low battery chirping at 4:30 am. I may need a Mexican food intervention! I'm learning to cook my own since NH isn't known for its enchiladas, which is going ok, but I get discouraged when I need tortillas. So today I ordered some from a company in VT that makes masa, then tortillas, and the process looks right. I'm excited! 🌮

Heating oil company we use has a "budget program" where you lock in a per gallon price for a contracted # of gallons in July, and make 10 equal payments for it. Just got a call that they are unable to lock in their price this year, so it's basically a crapshoot for us. I'm making payments, hoping...

Monday progress report is really Sunday progress report! Today I was a slug. - watched baseball, football, Nascar while rearranging my closets and bedroom - knitted on my sock - knitted on my sweater - replaced "meh, good enough" buttons with buttons from Stitches West 2019 finally! Info in alt. 🧶

Turquoise, purple, and green variegated sweater button band with new buttons! I'd finished it to wear to Stitches West 2019 but had used some gold metal flower-shaped buttons, hoping to find the perfect buttons at Stitches. Found these at an antique buttons vendor and was totally blown away by how perfect they were! Each button is different - the purple swirls are different on each. I'm embarrassed it took so long to make the switch.⁹

Sad knitting group news today. Oldest member - 86, I think - was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July. She entered hospice today; her sister says she's probably got 5 days left, at best. She's a real hoot - great attitude, excellent and creative knitter, wild sense of humor. F*** cancer.

After 4 days wearing glasses instead of contacts I can definitely say I am NOT a fan. Too much distortion, not enough correction. I find I'm taking them off to read about half them time, and feel my world getting smaller. Driving seems to be ok, if a bit nerve-wracking. It's not all vanity!

Got squishy mail on Saturday, finally. A few weeks ago I started cutting stripd for a QIAD log cabin quilt, colors based on a specific fabric. GingerSnap, a large and sometimes clumsy cat, hopped up as I was cutting strips and knocked it off grain, ruining the whole piece which I've had for years.

Just had a rare phone call with my mother and I really can't believe how awful and racist she is. She hasn't always been like this - or at least not so openly - but it was so appalling that I cut the call short after telling her that the "facts" she was quoting were actually made up and not true.

Day 1 of wearing glasses, not contacts so the Dr gets good numbers before cataract surgery is done. I'm quite nearsighted and have worn contacts since I was 16 (57 years). Today was not great - vision isn't as good, peripheral vision doesn't exist, lenses distort, glasses slip. Has to be done. 🤓

Pretty quilt in shades of green and autumn flowers with a pair of red glasses. The lenses are quite thick, especially on the left or lower lens - this is after all the existing technology to make lenses thinner has been utilized. I hope I can manage to wear them for a month or so without totally losing what remains of my mind.
