“I don’t want AI to replace artists and writers” is a humanist sentiment but “I don’t want robots to replace delivery drivers” just comes across as regressive to me.

i believe this in spirit — genuinely, i really do — but we can’t put a model in prison. we can’t sue a model. we can’t force a model to accept demands. so, while a model might be able to do the basics, and we should pay execs a *lot* less as a result, we still need humans to sign their names

one thing that i really want in terms of UX is being able to give organizations and apps 'budgets' in terms of how often they can demand my attention or message me, and I want these budgets to be visible to them. I want the marginal cost of bothering me to legible to those doing it.

if your agents are going to commit crimes, you are legally responsible if you cannot figure out how to prevent your agents from doing crimes, you’re going to have to choose between releasing them and protecting yourself from criminal liability imo this would do more for “ai safety” than a sex cult

Bud, if you know how to code a multi-endpoint, cryptographically verified, fully interactive server/dashboard, in both python and go, on a hacked Kindle, with full hardware-specific low power and state management, in less than 2 days, by all means. I, however, did it while playing AC:BF:R on PS5.

As a pretty anti-car guy, it's interesting to note that if you replace "walk" with "Lyft", this isn't unreasonable - especially if you have a remote job. Instructive to consider which of these constraints you'd be most willing to compromise on.

Only realized today that representing "speech 👏🏻 like 👏🏻 this" is not indicating claps _between_ the words, but doing the best possible job in a linear format to indicate clapping _on_ the words.

I am sort of constantly baffled by critics (which I am, more than not!) who don't feel like they have to stay apprised of what these things can actually do. not least you're going to come off like a fool, but also it's not at all like knowing what they can do obviates the criticisms of them?

Underappreciated thread of the AI discussion today is the perspective that you can’t build complex, predictable systems from things that probabilistically fail. Speaking generally, that’s not how anything works. *Everything* fails. Yet we can still make reliable complex systems.
