What's wild is that this SCN mentions NWWS-OI, a horrible + half-baked idea written by yours truly and that only contains a very small subset of noaaport. The SCN does not mention WIS2, which is supposed to be the path forward, but wasn't working last I checked. </rant>

I've got one more plot left in me before I leave this dead horse alone. Two day T/Td time series from ISU Soil Moisture network Kanawha (near Algona) (literal ag field), Ames ASOS, and Algona AWOS. Two subplots show physically explainable processes, the other does not.

I am too old to tap down the 90/90 talk. Please, get out your slide rule and compute how much water that is, even assuming a very shallow mixed layer above a corn field. Even if 90/90 was right for a corn field, this is way outside of the perf range of the sensor w/ 10 mile viz ob, case closed...

Iowa has long suffered from state-owned AWOS sites located in corn/soy fields, sometimes surrounded on all sides within 3m by crop and inaccessible until harvest :/ Many of the AWOS sites had their sensors removed by the FAA this summer, but not all sites. ie Clarion CAV currently 90/90 :(

Sioux City, IA SUX (great icao btw), tied its reported dew point record yesterday evening at 83°F. Today, it is running a degree or two warmer at this hour, so perhaps this record is in jeopardy this afternoon, but perhaps moisture pooling with the storm complex yesterday helped more than corn :/

Omaha/Eppley recorded a T:100°F and Td:77°F. I have this as the hottest temperature on record for the site with a dew point of at least 77°F.

Des Moines with a current reading of T:96°F / Td:80°F is the hottest air temperature I have on record for the site with a coincident 80+°F dew point. Des Moines earlier hit 81°F, which is one degree off the unofficial record I calculate.

SPC has issued a 10% area for tornado risk (at intensity level 1 no less), which is a first for that part of the forecast area. This is NOT your typical summer severe thunderstorm risk for areas with a lot of people sleeping and playing outdoors.
