Triple lock, social care, possible EU rejoining, voting reform.... Beyond the issues and details, what the PM did the other day was to seize the political agenda. The previous regime seemed to be constantly reacting to the shifting, crazy rantings of the Telegraph and Mail. Now it's a new game.

Finally the Tory makes an interesting point about small businesses. Worth debating in relation to paying for the re-investment in public services needed following years of Tory austerity. The question has always been 'can the private sector bear the cost of this definite change of approach?' #bbcqt

Abolishing the #triplelock to index state pensions purely to CPI would save the UK government an estimated £2 billion/ year but completely abolishing higher-rate tax relief on private pension contributions would yield a significantly larger £10 billion to £15 billion per year for the Treasury.

@iandunt.bsky.social Alternatively, the pension tax relief given to the highest-earning people in this country, at rates above the basic level of income tax, costs at least £15bn a year – vastly more than costs attributed to the triple lock.

Vote Reform. Or we will house *dangerous migrant centres* in your village. And if you vote Green, it will be even worse for you. It's beyond disturbing. The chill wind of threat, thuggery and menace of a kind never before seen in Britain.
Today we announce a new policy:

In order to deport all illegal migrants in
Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of
thousands at a time.

Migrants will not be able to leave these
detention centres, and each will be held
there a couple of weeks before being
deported.

So here's our promise:

A Reform government will not put any
migrant detention facilities in any
constituency with a Reform MP.

Nor will we put them where Reform
controls the council.

And of the remaining areas, we will
prioritise Green controlled parliamentary
constituencies and Green controlled
councils to locate the detention centres.

Put simply, if you vote in a Reform
council or Reform MP, we guarantee yPut simply, if you vote in a Reform
council or Reform MP, we guarantee you
won't have a detention centre near you

If you vote Green, there's a good chance
you will,

This is an important exercise in
democratic consent, not just for our
mass deportation policy, but for where
the detention centres are placed

Given @ZackPolanski openly advocates
for open borders, I look forward to their
warm embrace of this policy

This is the offence of "undue influence" under the 1983 Representation of the People Act. Its potential applicability to these electoral communications may depend on the scope of the prohibition to "intimidate in any other way"
Undue influence
(1)
A person is guilty of a corrupt practice if the person is guilty of undue influence.

(2)

(a)
inducing or compelling a person to vote in a particular way or to refrain from voting, or

(b)
otherwise impeding or preventing the free exercise of the franchise of an elector or of a proxy for an elector.

(3)
A person (“P”) is also guilty of undue influence if P carries out an activity falling within any of paragraphs (a) to (f) of subsection (4) on account of—

(a)
a person having voted in a particular way or refrained from voting, or

(b)
P assuming a person to have voted in a particular way or to have refrained from voting.

(4)
The following activities fall within this subsection—

(a)
using or threatening to use violence against a person;

(b)
damaging or destroying, or threatening to damage or destroy, a person’s property;

(c)
damaging or threatening to damage a person’s reputation;

(d)
causing or threatening to cause financial loss to a person;

(e)
causing spiritual injury to, or placing undue spiritual pressure on, a person;

(f)
doing any other act designed to intimidate a person;

(g)
doing any act designed to deceive a person in relation to the administration of an election.

(5)
For the purposes of subsections (2) and (3) an activity is carried out by a person (“P”) if it is carried out—

(a)
by P,

(b)
by P jointly with one or more other persons, or

(c)
by one or more other persons on behalf of P and with P’s authority or consent.
