This sort of fall takes house prices back to where they were only a few years ago, when the headlines were about the insane unaffordability. It's the more expensive homes (already over inflated) which are experiencing a drop - the lower end of the market has barely moved.

Alan Kohler to retire from the ABC after 31 years

Alan Kohler will retire from the ABC at the end of this year, capping a three decade-tenure at the national broadcaster.

Kohler joined the ABC in 1995 as a business correspondent and has been the lead finance presenter for the 7pm news since 2002. His trademark signoff – “And that’s finance” – has greeted viewers for years.

He said in a statement:

I love the ABC, always have, even more so after I joined it.

I find it very hard to imagine this wonderful place not being part of my life, but I’m 74 and it’s time to spend more time with my family, including the six grandchildren.

The Coalition says it wants cheaper power, not ideology. But its evidence-free plan is all ideology | Adam Morton
The reheated plans to scrap renewable schemes, boost fossil fuels and revive nuclear are not based on fact but ideology * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Give the Coalition points for chutzpah, if nothing else. In a press release on Wednesday, first given to the Australian for a not exactly hard-won “exclusive”, it declared “Australians need cheaper power, not more ideology”. You don’t have to get far beyond that headline to find its position comes from a worldview that is ideology on steroids. That worldview says climate change is not real, or at least not a real concern, and Australia should abolish nearly all plans to respond to or prepare the economy – and people’s lives – for the changes under way.
