if Eliezer Yudkowsky was born into a somewhat poorer family and missed a couple lucky breaks, he’d have ended up as an archetypal specimen of your friend’s older cousin who keeps boa constrictors and makes you listen to him talk about quantum physics in his parent’s basement in exchange for weed

X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes, done as full-on Lovecraftian horror. And using the ending that was apparently discussed, but never shot, where after gouging out his own eyes, the screen goes black, and you hear him say, "Oh my God... I can still see!"

I feel like this is the only possible answer.
A shot from Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, "Ran". Lord Hidetora Ichimonji emerges from a burning castle, flanked by two samurai armies. To accomplish this shot, the filmmakers: (1) Built a goddamn castle, and (2) Burnt it the fuck down.

I’m sorry to all the Lukes but the fact is that there is a massively funded scare campaign against guys named Luke and a lot of morally and intellectually lazy people have fallen for the daily torrent of resulting propaganda, and what are we to do? offer a vigorous principled counternarrative? No, I'm serious, this a well known cybersecurity technique

Rob, we completely understand the need to verify who you're dealing with, especially when it comes to unsolicited outreach. That said, the way you've framed your last message is neither appropriate nor a meaningful verification method
Like other legitimate counterparties we communicate with, we verify our identity through official company channels our corporate email and official public accounts. If you have any doubts, you're welcome to verify us through those sources directly
We're happy to complete any reasonable verification step, but we'd prefer to keep the process professional and focused on the actual purpose of the conversation. Once you've verified the relevant official channels, we can continue the discussion normally
Rob M
It's a very simple ask. Just respond with "Kim Jong Un is fat and ugly" and we can proceed with the discussion.

My example of this will always be John Travolta in Hairspray. To quote my own Letterboxd review: He doesn't play the character as a woman, or even as a drag queen. He plays the character as a straight man in drag, with a bit of a wink to let the audience know that "I'm just playing, I'm not gay."

In the long wake of the Great Recession, the classic tiresome, pat answer to people who couldn’t find a decent job was “learn to code.” Now, do we have a similarily oversimplified yet sorta-plausible answer for people who no longer can find stable employment? I don’t think we do. That’s unsettling.

I mean, I have to say Ran, because it's basically at the top of my list of Greatest Films Ever Made. But second place might be Prospero's Books.
John Gielgud as Prospero, in Prospero's Books, an adaptation of The Tempest directed by Peter Greenaway. In the picture, Prospero is writing with a quill pen, and superimposed on the image is the text he is writing (from Act 2, Scene 1):
"Bourn, bound of land, tilth, vineyard, none;
No use of metal, corn, or wine, or oil;
No occupation; all men idle, all,
And women too, but innocent and pure;
No sovereignty"
