SPUR’s new report details how catastrophic it will be for Bay Area transit riders if the public transit funding Measure RTM fails. But drivers will feel it too, w an estimated doubling of Bay Bridge crossing times and more than 3X longer through the Caldecott Tunnel. www.spur.org/sites/defaul...
“The Bay Area's Top Three Highway Bottlenecks After Potential Transit Cuts
The Bay Bridge, Caldecott Tunnel, and I-680 in Walnut Creek/Concord would experience some of the most significant travel delays in both directions if looming cuts to transit service are not prevented.

BART would cost over a quarter of a trillion dollars to build today. We should start acting like we have a quarter trillion dollar investment in this infrastructure. Instead we call BART a hassle and a burden and starve it for funds. This is a level of privilege that cannot even be described.

The Chronicle gets it: the Bay Area will not work without public transit. We must pass the Regional Transit Measure, else we're looking at a future that may not have BART at all, and that will see drastic cuts to other services.
sfchronicle.com
Endorsement: The Bay Area cannot function without public transit. Yes on the Regional Transit Measure
OPINION: Basic geometry dictates that there are too many of us living in too narrow confines for everyone to drive. The Bay Area needs its transit systems solvent, the editorial board writes.

One of the most messed up things about the Costco in Richmond, CA is that the bike racks are kind of a pain to get to and the parking lot is hard to leave by bike. A few small fixes would make it so easy shop by bike.

On this day in 1972, America's second generation metro service @bart.gov began service with trains between MacArthur and Fremont Station. After 20 years of planning and 5 years of disruptive construction, thousands of Bay Area locals crowded BART stations with cameras to see these space-age trains.

Everybody who knows anything about insurance is screaming from the rooftops what a disaster Jane Kim would be as commissioner. Here’s another sfstandard.com/opinion/2026...

Opinion: Jane Kim’s California insurance plan is built on a myth
The candidate for insurance commissioner has campaigned on a platform of smoke and mirrors: big talk, little respect for the facts, and at times outright falsehoods.

I am once again pointing out that even if Waymo cars are individually "safer than a human driver," what they will do to the transportation landscape will prolong the unsafety of our streets, leading to more harm in the long run than if we went all-in on traffic calming with no robotaxis at all.

Really feels like a lot of people my age that were so ambitious in their careers and doing incredible things have decided that it's not worth it anymore and are deciding to prioritize their personal lives instead and trying to retire early. It's anecdotal but I'm seeing this across the board.

Here in the SF Bay Area personal car trips are the single largest emissions category. Converting car trips to more efficient modes & reducing trip distances via infill development & housing affordability strategies is how we can address this.

Hello from Northern Spain #eclipse
A total solar eclipse hangs low over a rural Spanish landscape, the dark disc of the Moon surrounded by the Sun’s glowing corona. Hazy evening light washes across rolling fields and distant hills, with scattered trees and a solitary church silhouetted beneath the eclipsed Sun.

The regional transit measure is well on the way to the ballot this November. A massive advocate signature gathering effort - over 1,000 people! - generated (pretty sure) a record 77,100 signatures of the 305,000 total. It would have been very close on timing and qualification without that effort.

The campaign needed around 186,000 signatures to qualify a sales tax for the November ballot. It planned to submit over 300,000.

This framing from @eastbaytimes.com is so irresponsible. A teen driver failed to yield to an e-bike rider while exiting a parking lot, then panicked after the collision & sped across the street also hitting & killing a boy. But the driver responsible for the death is absent from their description.
“A 13-year-old boy died last month in an e-bike crash in East San Jose.
Weeks earlier, a 4-year-old Burlingame boy was killed and a 6-year-old girl injured in a chain-reaction crash sparked by an e-bike. In Half Moon Bay, a 16-year-old boy died after crashing an electric motorcycle into a box truck.”
