What is happening is not that AI-generated cultural goods are replacing human-made cultural goods; what is happening is that capital is flowing out of the production of cultural goods *entirely,* making us all poorer for it.

In both film and video games, you see a ton of *project cancellations* and a general difficulty in funding new projects, which wouldn't be the case if AI was displacing workers in producing those products—you'd expect the opposite, in fact, if it was becoming cheaper to make a movie/game.

Punishing disagreement isn't very democratic. Carney's team, with all its access to information and data, still wasn't able to convince its own caucus members on the merits of their argument, so they fell back on threats instead. And even those didn't work against everyone! #Canada #CdnPoli

This is like saying "water went rogue" when maintenance failures led to a plumbing leak that ruins a building full of homes. The only thing that's "gone rogue" is the US tech industry. Luckily they are registered companies run by physical people, so there are solutions to that problem.

If a human did what ChatGPT did, they'd be convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, which can carry a life sentence. It's unconscionable that Canada's legislators are letting OpenAI get away with helping to plan murders. At the very least, it shouldn't be allowed to continue to operate in Canada.

the whole point of LLMs is to add another layer of separation between the people doing the social harms and the harms themselves like hiring a consultant, the point is for it to do what you always wanted while you go "haha that thing has a mind of its own"
