It really doesn't make sense to attribute those job losses to AI-the-technology, because if that were the case we'd be observing AI outputs displacing conventional entertainment products, and they're clearly not. Rather, the impact of AI is that AI-the-business is crowding out other investment.

I got curious about this and my own use of em dashes fluctuates quite a lot on individual pieces. But on a small sample (of articles I wrote for Remap), I got a figure of about 6.9 per 1000 words (nice). Small sample because I was using en dashes until recently.

The source for this graph is an AI benchmarking company, so most likely just bullshit data anyway, but I like the implication that either 1. Claude Opus 5 used em dashes roughly 15 times more often than is optimal, 2. Anthropic panic overcorrected and basically beat the em dashes out of it
