Her people lived beneath the waves. They had done for centuries, since her father left dry land. Rhys Dwfn was his name—Rhys of the deep, the wise, the long-lived. He’d warned them to stay away from the world above. Land-dwellers had never done him any good, and surely they’d treat his daughters no better.
But Rhys had grown set in his ways. The longer he lived, the more adamant he was that the human world would never change.
He was not exactly wrong. They saw the evidence of that every day, washed into the sea—all the land-dwellers’ waste, plastics that never rotted as live things do, nets that caught up the creatures of the sea and throttled the life from them. Oil, sometimes, an acrid, clinging poison. And sewage, choking clouds of effluent that lingered in the water for days, making the sea-dwellers sick, so that they came to dread the rain.

Last year, I was going to use my birthday money to get a new PC to replace this grizzled AM3+ socket based system. I sat on the money for 3 weeks to see if there were any good cyber Monday deals. Instead, system prices rose by 50%, putting a new computer out of my budget.

I've been mucking about with voxels again.

A steampunk airship-of-war, rendered in coarse voxels.

It has a mostly flat deck, with a tower towards the rear, in amongst a mess of brass pipes and metal gas tanks. Propellers are spinning merrily to provide forward thrust. Amidships, three gun turrets, each with four barrels, dominate the image. In front of them is a wide deck area where smaller craft can take off and launch. Underneath the bow, a rotating casemate with a long-pointy railgun thing lurks. The vessel has rally stripes in red and green. There's not really a background, just some grey.
