I think it's primarily that this has been more of a critique of Flanagan and his most vocal, annoying fans than anything about the actual art, which I on the whole struggle to engage with even from those clearly far more intelligent and cultured than me

I agree most with the harshest critics despite myself being a fan of Flanagan's work, but I also just find it to be flattened by the "discourse" of it all. Meaningful critique is hard to parse in the social media landscape.

I find the Flanagan discourse to, unsurprisingly, be a stream of interesting points, ideas and critique drowned in the extremity of social media's brand of cynical assumption. Even the best takes I've seen have been somewhat limiting. I'll be happy when nuance can be added to the discussion
