1. Make sure you're doing it yourself. Kids read most readily when parents read. Seeing the adults around them reading, hearing them talk about what they're reading, is often the best way to engage their interest.

Everything Gale says in this thread, but I'm highlighting the visual literacy part bcuz we as a society don't put enough emphasis on visual communication. We treat reading and language as only a matter of alphabet, not images. Children need both. Dismissing the role of art doesn't help literacy.

I've been working 100% digitally for so long sometimes I forget how much I used to depend on working out ideas traditionally. I used to sketch in pen and Sharpie to teach myself how to be more precise and decisive with my lines.

I'm thinking about notes from freelance clients which made me think about genAI posters and one thing a lot of folks don't understand is part of design methodology is understanding how people process information. Designers don't simplify to make their work easy, but to make comprehension easy.

I applied for a part-time gig with a pet-sitting agency and they had me submit two applications, read a bunch of docs, schedule a 40-minute Zoom interview, submit a pre-interview questionnaire, and also I'd have to pay for a background check and it's a good summary of why I'm sick of job hunting.
