Fran opens the hood and says "well, there's your problem." A pleasant man with piercing, a beard and dreadlocks sits near the engine. Frank remarks "Jonathan Davis from Korn is under the hood."

This reminds me of how anyone who has *ever* had to do wfh timekeeping has had to deal with software that is not at all designed for how humans work, and they end up having to mcguyver things to fit into how the timekeeping program wants stuff logged.

An Abyssinian roller that is also a little book. It begins: “Why is a roller like a writing desk? The need for fire and acacia, both. One for blood - the other, ink.” Written in India ink. - #SciArtSeptember Day 30: Carbon
A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird has one wing folded back, which reveals a small booklet of pages under the wing. The underwing is brown and has uneven letters painted on it in another shade of brown reading, “Some small words about the medium of carbon.” The booklet pages are bright blue, like the bird, and the words inside are unclear. The bird rests on a wooden table top.A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird appears to be in flight, with the wings positioned in a downward flap. Magical creatures don’t exist, eh? Roughly 400 million years ago, before the birth of trees, there were giant mystery cones called “Prototaxites,” which grew nearly 30 feet tall. We literally have no idea what they were. Plant: no Mushroom: no Animal: no Tell me this isn’t a little bit magic

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Steve Vladeck, a professor a Georgetown Law, writes up breaking developments from the Supreme Court. The last post in the three-post thread is the kicker, for our purpose here.

"#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

Center is the full image of a realistic still life oil painting of an old worn small tree stump with thick broken exposed roots in a bright direct light.

To the right is a human skull facing to the right and out of the painting in the show of the stump.

On the upper left side of the stump hangs a small button buck deer skull.

Protruding to the left is a snarled root with a wooly bear caterpillar perched on the very end.
