Stipulating that I agree w/ the below: @annehelen.bsky.social wrote once re: how ideology rarely announces itself as ideology. With white supremacism, we have a more interesting specimen: ideology that folks of acuity find impossible to see as ideology, even when adherents shout it.

People who want to ban abortion want to ban it everywhere, full-stop — flowered words about 'leaving abortion to the states' notwithstanding.

To recap: three GOP-led states that wanted the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade in order to "send abortion back to the states" are now asking the Court to strike down abortion protections in blue states

Imagine consciously adopting ‘The Kremlin Guide to Warfighting’ as a how-to manual after that three-day special military operation in Ukraine (2022-?). Just remarkable (derogatory).

What It Feels Like at Cornell Right Now
As a professor at the Ivy League school, Kate Manne has known many, many victims. There’s a palpable feeling on campus, she writes, that this is big.

To quote a @chrislhayes.bsky.social jape at the Roberts Court: "They go fast when they want to go fast and slow when they want to go to slow and the decision is *always* an ideological one."
Steve Vladeck, a professor a Georgetown Law, writes up breaking developments from the Supreme Court. The last post in the three-post thread is the kicker, for our purpose here.

"#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

I'm trying to imagine a Democratic president — let's say Al Gore, to give ourselves a giggle — refusing to approve a single highway project for almost two years, and the absolute hellfire that would erupt in response _across_ the political landscape.

617 days into his 2nd term, Trump's Department of Transportation has *still* not approved a single new transit project for full funding. The problems I highlighted in March—how this lack of funding only makes projects cost more & delays completion—have only worsened www.urban.org/urban-wire/r...
There have been no approvals for new transit projects in the entire 2nd Trump Administration. This graph, produced in March 2026, remains accurate now, in September 2026.

I _like_ the idea of civilization as a set of intergenerational contracts! Why set one's mind to the thought _oh well, we're f––ed, not my problem_? The people before us never knew we'd inherit the Earth, but here we are, thanks to them. The least we can do is a little upkeep and improvement.

[in a very MICHAEL STIPE voice:] 🎼 that's Rahm on the High Line 🪕 🎵 that's Rahm on a park … bench … 🎻 💭 thinking he'll be POTUS 😆
A post to X by political consultant John Anzalone, who wrote:

"Underestimate @RahmEmanuel at your own risk. He knows how to win. He knows how to fight. And he knows how to message.

"And no one will out work him. Regardless of whether he wins the Democratic nomination in 2028 he will make an impact on the race. You can be sure of that. Don't take your eyes off of him. At the minimum, learn from him.

"Rahm Emanuel Makes His 2026 Play"

The last line is the headline of a Sunday piece from the New York Times, the preview card of which features a photo of Emanuel seated on a park bench that looks like it's someplace along the High Line in the Meatpacking District.
