One of our windows has prismatic stickers on it, intended to keep birds from crashing into it. A neat side effect is that when Murphy is in his dog bed by the window, he gets rainbows all over him.
A small brown dog curled up snoozing in a fluffy dog bed. There are small rainbows across his fur.

Actual size:
The same lizard as before, now zoomed out so you can see how incredibly tiny it is. There is part of an acorn or something next to it, and the acorn piece is bigger than its head.

The Damaraland mole rat. Like the naked mole rat (which they're a close relative of), but not naked.

Okay, so the white throated sparrow is actually a fairly common bird in North America, but the really cool thing about it is they basically have four biological sexes.
The "white stripe" morph of the white-throated sparrow. It's a fairly normal looking songbird with distinctive black and white stripes on top of its head. The "tan stripe" morph of the white throated sparrow. The stripes on top of its head are tan and brown.

All this needs is a filter for ~aesthetic~ and frankly even that is optional.

Look at this ridiculous thing!!!
A moth, with wings so tiny and pathetic looking that they would probably better be described as “sticks”, perched on a window. Honestly, it resembles an IUD more than it does an insect.

Oh! Salmon cakes! If you use canned salmon it’s cheap af. While the recipe calls for the bones to be removed, in my experience you can leave the bones in without affecting the texture much. We’ve also had success using potato chips instead of breadcrumbs.
A recipe for “Quick and Easy Salmon Patties”, calling for a can of salmon, an egg, 1/3 cup minced onion, 1/2 cup all purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or finely crushed crackers. Drain the can of salmon, reserving two tablespoons of the liquid, and combine with other ingredients (except breadcrumbs) + reserved salmon liquid. Shape into patties, coat in breadcrumbs, and fry. Serve warm.

Relatedly:
A four panel comic. In the first panel, a man lets go of the steering wheel of a car while saying “Jesus take the wheel.” In the second panel, we see a pair of hands grab the steering wheel from offscreen while a voice says, “You idiot!” In the third panel, we cut to Jesus’s face. He says, “I died way before cars were invented! I can’t drive!” The final panel shows both of them screaming in terror as Jesus attempts to drive the passenger seat.

I don’t have the time or energy to finish it, but I’ve been toying with the idea of a horror story featuring an inhuman monster that totally isn’t a commentary on anything in particular …
Listen to me. The Chat does not think. The Chat does not feel. Most of all, the Chat does not care about you, except perhaps in the way you might care about a delicious burger. Do you understand? The Chat wants to eat you, as much as something that runs entirely on instinct is capable of wanting anything. More specifically, the Chat wants to eat your soul.

Not even just any students! Students who are disabled and/or speak English as a second or third language! It feels very condescending to be honest. "You'll never be able to do this so we won't even give you the chance to try."
Several workshop participants, like Joanna Stillman, were already very familiar with AI. Stillman teaches computer and technology classes to elementary school children in Staten Island.

“I love incorporating AI into my classes because my school is mostly ENL students, and we have students with disabilities,” Stillman said, referring to the high proportion of students in her school who speak English as a second or third language.

Stillman, like Goodnow and many other teachers, noted that AI can help tailor her lessons for students of different abilities, creating more-advanced activities for higher-performing students and more-basic tasks for students who are functionally illiterate in English.

Stillman mostly uses Canva and Adobe, two graphic-design software products, for AI lessons instead of more-general AI services like ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude. Her students are currently using Canva’s AI functions to design ugly holiday sweaters.

Vampire squids also don’t drink blood as the “vampire” part might imply. They eat detritus. They do have kind of a cape, though?

I looked at that article and they’re comparing “US prisons“ to “state prisons”, which are two separate things. Kind of difficult to draw a comparison with that.
Drug offenses account for the incarceration of about 1 in 5 people in U.S. prisons.[7] Violent offenses account for over 3 in 5 people (62%) in state prisons.[7] Property offenses account for the incarceration of about 1 in 7 people (14%) in state prisons.[7]

I think my favorite in the "no way it grows like *that*" category is asparagus. Literally looks like some prankster is trying to fool you into thinking this is how asparagus grows.
Asparagus plants growing out of the ground. There isn't anything to these plants other than the entire edible vegetable (at least above ground) so it just looks like somebody stuck some asparagus stalks into dirt.

But you know what, I’m not trusting a food quiz that can’t get its terminology right. You call that a burger?? That is a pulled pork *sandwich*, unless there’s an invisible beef patty somewhere.

An interesting bug I found recently. It’s a moth.
A very small moth with clear wings (though the angle makes it hard to tell) and a black-and-yellow striped body, making it resemble a bee. It’s perched on a leaf. The same moth, now seen from the top instead of the side.

There’s also club soda … but it will not, repeat, will not work in recipes where the main point of the egg is to provide structure to the finished product. I found this out the hard way when baking cookies once.
A plastic container full of what are allegedly oatmeal cookies, but in reality are merely oatmeal crumble formed into circles. They have fused together because on top of using the wrong egg substitute, I also forgot the wax paper. You can see little knife marks at one edge where someone tried to slice some of the Crumble Pile off. It is delicious but looks kinda like dog vomit.

Also, the King of Cups is Mr. Rogers. This deck also mostly takes the “keep the court card titles, just ignore gender in the artwork” route, but presumably this was just too perfect not to include.
The King of Cups card from the Fifth Spirit tarot. It depicts Mr. Rogers, in one of his famous cardigans, sitting cross-legged on a padded bench holding a hot drink. A crown is perched haphazardly on the bench’s corner.

I use this deck much more often — it’s my go-to deck these days. A little bit closer to the traditional RWS formula. Just, a very queer version of it. The Empress and the Emperor are both trans, and the Devil explicitly represents heteronormativity/patriarchy/etc.
The box for the Fifth Spirit Tarot by Charlie Claire BurgessThe Sun card from this deck. It depicts a couple out on a picnic in the sun. The man is shirtless and has obvious top surgery scars. A beagle is licking his face while his partner grins in the background. The Empress card from this deck. She has an Adam’s apple and is surrounded by traditional agricultural symbols like grain and pomegranates. The Devil card from this deck. It shows a man and a woman — her in a dress and carrying a wine glass, him in a suit and smoking a cigar. They have been transformed into puppets, and the hands of a largely unseen being pull their strings.

This deck is gorgeous and very queer. My one (1) complaint about it is that the size of the cards makes them a bit unwieldy.
The box of the Next World Tarot by Christy C. In the foreground, an old woman and a little girl stand next to each other.
