I was interested to compare the "original" colours of this 1985 French edition of The Rocketeer I picked up in Angers this summer (coloured by Evelyne Tranlé) next to my 2009 "Complete Adventures" edition from IDW...
Side by side comparison of two Rocketeer comic covers, one with modern, earthy colour gradients and the other with vivid 80s flat colours. The images are also flipped, curiously enough.Side by side comparison of two Rocketeer comic covers, one with modern, earthy colour gradients and the other with vivid 80s flat colours.

Great blue heron
Photo of a painted portrait of a great blue heron, it's head tilted in such a way that its head and neck nearly form a figure eight. It's painted in a soft, semi-realistic style with a dark background.

I dig this "hand o' the artist" page by @paulchadwick.bsky.social
From "The Building That Didn't Explode" short comic by Paul Chadwick, (in Concrete vol.6 "Strange Armor") concluding to the author's contemplations about coincidences/theodicy with a fourth-wall-breaking view of the his hands drawing out "empty" comic panels and his pen leaving a blot of ink on the page.

Captions read: "Control the things you can. Me, I can control a comics page fairly well. I'll stick to that. Oops. Where's that Whiteout?"

The oldest living being in Wales is a 3,000-year-old yew tree in the churchyard of Llangernyw village. Nearby are two equally ancient standing stones. On Halloween and July 31st, the Angelystor (a dark spirit) appears by the tree to announce which villagers will die soon. #FairyTaleTuesday

A few months ago I got to design the staff t-shirt for The Hobbit x MTG! I relished painting some of the pivotal characters and elements of the story. The stylization is inspired by Tolkien's own paintings, and I wanted it to look as though Bilbo had drawn these things in his book.
A stylized collection of images from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Featuring characters Smaug, Bilbo, Beorn, and Gollum, and artifacts like the One Ring, Thorin's Key, the Arkenstone, and Sting.

I’m not picking on Jordan btw. or not just picking on him. He’s had to listen to me work out in real time what editors really mean when they say “this is great” and “exactly what we want. No notes.” Why would they just lie to us like that?

Start/Finish. The Signalman.
A pencil drawing of a signalman at the foot of steps of his signalbox. He is staring at the mouth of a tunnel, train tracks lead into it.The same image but finished. The Signalbox is brightly lit casting shadows on the damp stone cutting and train tracks. Another figure is stood at the mouth of the tunnel. A tangle of trees at the top of the rocky ravine. A bleak, lonely and atmospheric scene.

Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps.
1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says:
"Well! Here comes ol' Charlie Brown!"
2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says "Good ol' Charlie Brown...yes, sir!"
3rd panel: "Good ol' Charlie Brown..."
4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, "How I hate him!"

Sent a rough draft to a client who thought it was final art... and they're really happy with it? It's totally psyched me out! What if what they liked about it gets lost in translation during the inking process? Should I ignore my personal standards and quit while I'm ahead, etc. etc?

My advice as a science illustrator is that if you ever get a chance to draw the Cambrian explosion, you should go all in and spend hours researching every single one of these insane animals. 🦞🐙🦀🦑 Evolution is such a trip. I'm so grateful to have briefly existed on this gorgeous planet. 🤯 #sciart

Photo of three small paintings laid out together on a wood desk with the detail brush used to paint them. The left most painting is of a belted kingfisher perched on a dead tree branch against a misty blue-gray background; the middle painting is of a least bittern gripping a plant stem and looking upwards against a golden background; the right most painting is of two great egrets in breeding plumage standing the top of a tree against a stormy looking background.
