Perhaps nowhere in America is the divide between auto-oriented and Walkable City environmentalists more clear than in San Francisco, where democrat Connie Chan is running for Congress as a “pro-car progressive,” who aims to convert Sunset Dunes Park into a high-speed highway.

I’ve had some talks with transit-friendly but very tax-weary friends locally about how RTM felt to them bit like a hostage ransom, and I explained as best I can that the stakes are actually this high and this stark based on how the measure passes or fails. Don’t overthink it!

In addition to taking back the CalTrain name/brand the state should be running a lot more intercity buses under a name like CalBus. The intercity bus network is the easiest and cheapest part of the state rail plan to implement. We can also have buses run future rail routes to kickstart ridership

There is no more effective way to reduce car driving than reducing the amount of parking available. It is by far the best way to protect the environment, fight climate change, and improve mobility by any other mode. Every parking space that is removed from this earth is a policy victory.

After Geary and the Central Subway extension, the most important line is a separate tunnel to the Sunset including burying the N-Judah; Downtown SF is a strong CBD and better subway service is only going to make it stronger, so don't do tangentials like 19th and Divisadero.

California High-Speed Rail is middle of the road in terms of costs internationally. High-speed rail isn't cheap, but it's worth it for the lower carbon emissions and pleasant, convenient connections. CA needs to stay the course and maintain its $1B/year commitment to fund HSR.

A blocked door isn't a very useful door. When riding Muni, please stand clear of vehicle doors so other passengers can more easily get on and off the bus or train.
This image is a public service announcement poster from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). It features the text "I like the way you move...away from the doors. Only an OutKast would block the doorway." Below is a tagline, "This is your Muni," with a heart symbol. The design includes an abstract figure standing near a door outline.

One of the biggest reason CAHSR is still incomplete after 18 years is the legislature's failure to provide reliable funding. CAHSR has still *spent* less than the original ~$30 B budget because it hasn't had access to the cash. If that money was there in 2012 we'd be a lot farther along now.
