The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

it is incredibly fucked up that the UK government and police consider it a much worse crime to wear a t-shirt or wave a placard with 'palestine action' on it than to block ports and attack lifeboats

it's interesting, isn't it, when someone keeps committing crimes on camera and not getting charged with anything. for all the police's institutional hard right slant they do and have arrested quite a lot of people at right wing protests/attempted pogroms over the last couple of years.

Don't know what to say anymore
Protesters amassed in Gosport, Hampshire, after rumours spread that the migrants might be brought ashore by lifeboats there. Police closed off access roads to the marina as activists rallied by Thomas on YouTube arrived to attempt to block the boat’s arrival. Crowds of masked protesters confronted a line of police to chants of “let them drown” sung by a child over a megaphone.

How having a disability became cool
Young women, nicknamed ‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend and entrenching a culture of economic inactivity

Young women are also more likely to get caught up in “social contagion” – the spontaneous spread of behaviours or emotions previously observed by sociologists in “outbreaks” of bulimia, self-harm and transgender ideology. What may have otherwise been transitory feelings are seized upon and obsessed over until they form a central pillar of a person’s identity. A chronic-illness influencer won’t want to get “better” any more than a female-bodied transgender person would want to re-identify with their sex.

I’ve never seen this Harryhausen quote about why stop motion animation is its own aesthetic form & trying to make it feel like smooth live-action is a category error. ❤️
As Harryhausen summed it up in 1981:

To me, the ultimate aim in making our films has never been the smoothing out of stop-motion animation. To try to duplicate live action in every way seems to me like asking a painter to paint a landscape so it will appear like a photograph. Our pictures are more of a surrealistic experience rather than an excursion into technical perfection. I’m certain technical perfection has its place and its advantages, but could you really make a sequence such as the skeleton swordfight in Jason and the Argonauts … with a computer?

ZOOMS IN FOR THE VIEWERS
A NEW science-fiction jaunt is coming to Britain's viewers.
It is called "Star Trek" and is set in the year 2069.
The TV series, which the BBC bought from America, features a colossal Spaceship with

430 men and women from Earth aboard.
It will replace "Dr. Who" as the Saturday tea-time thriller, begin-ning on July 12,
"Star Trek" will run to the end of the year. The series has had a
tremendous impact on American TV audiences.
Scientists from the Rand Corporation acted an technical advisers.
And the Smithsonian Institution has secured a print of the original pilot programme for its Space museum.
Early episodes will be screened in black and white. Others will be seen in colour as BBC-1 switches over in November.
"Star Trek" was highly praised for its imagination. technical accuracy and attention to detail, a BBC spokesman said yesterday.
"Despite a staggering collection of computers, weapons, communication systems and navigating devices, the creators claim there is nothing in the series which is technically impossible," he added.
Stardom
"Everything is based on what is almost certain to happen, providing the current rate of scientific advancement is main-tained."
"Star Trek" has brought overnight stardom to Leonard Nimoy, who plays a half-human, half-Val-canian second officer of the Space ship.
America knows him as Mr. Spock. He has large pointed ears.
Last year actor Nimoy was guest of honour at the National Space Club din-ner. Many of America's top Space scientists were there.
One of them told Nimoy: When Star Trek is on the air the Kennedy Space Centre practically shuts down."

I remember in Command & Conquer you can use sandbags to block enemy units, cos they don't attack them. Also I vaguely remember some Dune 2 units having slightly longer range when attacking vertically, so you could cheese that way.
