Florida ivory millipede (Chicobolus spinigerus) coiled around a bare brown twig CREW pen flint strand lake trails Bonita Springs, Florida 9-20-26 #macroMonday #eck #macro #nature #green #art #macroPhotography #native #threeWordGenre #bugsky #invertebrates #invertefest
Macro of a millipede coiled tightly around a vertical brown twig against a solid black background. Positioned on its stage-left, the creature's smooth, rounded, segmented body arches in a dynamic curve, displaying alternating glossy bands of cream and deep chocolate brown. Dozens of its delicate, pale translucent legs extend inward, firmly gripping the rough woody bark. The smooth, rounded head capsule is visible near the upper center, tucked close to the twig. The lighting highlights the glossy, reflective texture of the exoskeleton, while the background is completely dissolved.

While people think planting native plants is just good to bring more butterflies, it also brings other animals to the yard. When we first watched a box turtle eating wild berries in our yard, we wanted more of that, so we planted a bunch of native berry bushes, and it seemed to have worked 🐢

This happened in the twin cities in 2008. SWAT teams raided the homes of anarchists on Friday before the RNC, held people without charges over the weekend and labor day, then for the two "working days" they're allowed.... then let one go on Thurs and immediately re-arrested her outside the building.

“The US State Department lobby used to display the flags of the roughly 200 countries with which the US maintains diplomatic relations. Now, it displays 200 American flags, to remind State Department employees who they work for.”

🌊 Paléontologie française: . Paris: Chez l'auteur, 1840-1894.. [Source]
Historical scientific illustration from "Paléontologie française" (1840-1894) depicting various fossilized sea urchin spines and cross sections. The image shows elongated cylindrical spines with distinct patterns of dark oval and round markings, as well as detailed cross-sectional views revealing internal geometric shapes and porous structures. Each specimen is numbered, highlighting differences in spine texture and form, with some having smooth surfaces and others showing segmented or patterned areas. The drawing emphasizes the morphological diversity of sea urchin spines from the Cretaceous period, providing insight into their skeletal anatomy and fossilized appearance. Text labels identify specific species and views.
