So busy with deadlines I haven't had time to color much, so here's some mostly b/w stuff from my sketchbook I've been messing around with recently.

Various ink studies of people in black leather-type jackets a a way to experiment with ink brush techniques to render the highlights of the light on the dark material, and a watercolor sketch of a blond woman in a black and white "space-y" suit with capped sleeves.

So I gave a talk yesterday about my page layout & digital painting process, and I'm entertaining the idea of turning it into a sort of tutorial that I'd make available online. We'll see...

Basic tips
- Blocking and value need to be confident before rendering detail
- Don't overly rely on the sample tool to select your colors
- Don't overly rely on program filters to mix colors (Overlay, Multiply, etc)
- Pay attention to where this contrast and where they don't
- Don't get hung up on "correct" lighting, color, etc.

- Hard Round Gouache (pressure - Size & Density)
- Round (Pressure - Opacity)
- Triangle (Pressure - Opacity)

- Highest contrast & saturation
- Soft BG
- Rim lighting
- Sharp edges but lower saturation
- Cooler colors emphasize warmth above
- Softer shadows & lower saturation
