We already have an AI kill switch: cut power to servers. Really want to talk existential threat? Fine. We humans have many ways to blow things up. Like data centers. Panicky discourse assumes the first priority is protect tech company investments and expand their businesses. But why should it be?

Based upon their documented behavior over the past few years, the tech industry is less afraid of the potential ramifications of Artificial Superintelligence than they are of Lina Khan.

Which of the handful of companies involved in this will abandon their current planned investments because interest rates rose? If they would, how high would their borrowing costs have to go? I think you'd have to raise rates until lenders simply deny them further credit. Incredibly painful

The thing nobody wants to say yet is addressing inflation would mean actually slowing down AI capex. If you’re not impacting capex you’re not doing enough.

I don't wanna say any more. 😉 Except, if you do play, 1) you've gotta read the manual, and 2) avoid spoilers online before you can read the manual. Reading the Tunic manual spoiler-free was one of my most personal rewarding gameplay experiences in recent years. And I've already said too much!

I just started Mina the Hollower, but it comes with a full manual just tucked away in the settings menu from the very beginning. And, although it explains some game mechanics in-game, the manual explains much more. Of course, to some extent, both of these games are aiming for a retro aesthetic.

Tunic is a recent favorite game that immediately comes to my mind with a very "in game" manual (IYKYK). And it starts less with a "tutorial level", more like a "difficulty ramp" which is considerably easier if you can read the manual. OTOH, you don't start with the *full* manual.

Getting a bit tired of very rich actors and directors saying ‘AI is here we have to learn how to use it’ instead of ‘I am wealthy enough to dedicate myself only to projects which employ talented human beings because anything else is an existential threat to human storytelling’

One of the global hallmarks of the anti-trans movement is that it's pushing people to reject levels of gender integration that were completely uncontroversial as recently as a few years ago.

Enjoyed this. As a layperson it was really educational on technical mechanisms of economic fallout, things I wouldn’t think about if not for this intersection. I feel it nicely says “these bits are wrong” without extrapolating to “your diagnosis is off - AI funding is secure - and EZ is an idiot”

Although kilobyte was originally used ambiguously to mean either 1024 or 1000 bytes (and that ambiguous usage does still persist), the modern IEC standardized terms have been (since 1998): kB = kilobyte = 1000 bytes MB = megabyte = 1000² bytes KiB = kibibyte = 1024 bytes MiB = mebibyte = 1024² bytes

Coming out when they did, I think it's fair to say they played a huge role in "defining" what the millennial generation would be (thus: definitive). Although I think other movies have got to be better picks for what movie best "capture" or "describe" millennials.

As a borderline xennial / elder millenial myself, I think both of those movies capture the *transition* between generations very well. And I first saw both of them at a time that was very transitional for me (17-18 years old). Very Xennial coded movies, IMO.

This is another reason why the only path forward is for Dems to bite the bullet and implement proportional representation via increasing the size of the House and mandating single multi-member districts. You can't have a constitutional democracy in a two-party system if one party is authoritarian.

Maybe they're using outdated info? Dishwashers have become dramatically more energy and water efficient over the last 30 years. They've also much quieter and *much* slower. The primary reason to wash dishes by hand today is because you're in a hurry (or your dishwasher is broken).

I once wound up in deep trouble for the last several miles of a 50k in 85-90°F weather. And I'd been taking salt! But I miscalculated and it wasn't nearly enough. I walked through the finish line, puked a bunch of water, and people carried me to sit down under a hose with a bag of ice on my head.

A way to be an ally to Jews is to relentlessly point out that there are more Christian Zionists in the US alone then there are Jews in the entire world (many of whom are not even Zionists). The conversation about Zionism should be dominated by that rather than laying all blame at the feet of Jews.

if you're programming in any collaborative environment, open source or proprietary, you're going to be forced to read some slop, whether or not you use it yourself. For reported security vulnerabilities in particular, you're definitely going to get LLM generated submissions from outside your team.

Since primaries are iterative, you almost kinda get a very very poorly implemented form of instant run-off. Which is why I wanted to see them come closer together before *any* voting started.

That's true. But what I was witnessing was a lot of Warren supporters getting pushed away from Sanders (who would otherwise have been their second choice) and voting Biden instead, and a lot of Sanders supporters getting burned on Warren and just skipping the primary! And primaries are iterative!
