I think the class of school administrators (not just in higher ed) who act fast to insulate core pedagogical functions from AI will reap major rewards for their trouble. In a few years, there will be an extremely stark difference between people who used AI in school and people who are competent

EVs are awesome. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has a range of 300-350 miles. I charge it at home, which is convenient, and it costs me about $10 to completely recharge the battery. (84 kWh at 12 cents a kWh) Compare that to a similar size gas car, at 25-30 mpg, which would cost $54 to fill up.

When it comes to climate change, the amount of money going to effective solutions matters. After all, we are talking about rebuilding the world. Sadly, money going into climate is way down from a few years ago. In government funding, investing, corporate spending, etc. We need to turn that around.

Did you know that producing one pound of beef is 25-50x worse for climate change than burning a pound of coal? In fact, it’s one of the most polluting things we can consume. And grass-fed beef is usually *even worse* — thanks to its much higher land use and methane emissions.
Bar chart showing greenhouse gas emissions for different food items. Beef is the worst, by far.

Do people realize that galas are probably the worst way to support non-profit work? For every dollar raised, it costs about 80-90 cents to basically put on a party for rich people. They’re inefficient, exclusive, and contrary to the mission of public service.

Dr. Foley is absolutely correct. “Regenerative” grazing being presented as a solution is very problematic from a climate action perspective b/c it is really obstruction that promotes unjust and unsustainable practices. Wealthy people can afford to pay the “regenerative” premium, the planet cannot.

Excellent article. There really is no getting around that global beef production needs to decrease (both overall and per-capita), and while regenerative grazing is better than not doing that, most of its benefit is from reducing that production, not making current production somehow sustainable.
