Ronson is describing how debilitating online radicalisation is, both personally calamitous and harmful to society in general. And here’s this guy, demanding to know why Ronson doesn’t also have a brain slug on his head.
Patrick Sturgis

What is missing from Ronson's account is him having the courage to say what he thinks on the substantive issues: women's sport, prisons, single-sex spaces, medical treatment of children. HE diagnoses an "unravelling" while keeping his own views safely below the parapet.

Patrick Freyne gives Ronson a platform this morning in the Irish Times, which, tellingly, has turned off comments.

I know there’s a lot going on with the Labour Party, but it is all in the bounds of democratic politics. This however, paid collusion between the leaders of two political parties in the run up to election, if true, is a scandal of staggering propositions

I do not really understand politics because why is a Prime Minister seeking to appeal to Conservative voters who switched to Reform when the voters for his Labour party switched to Green and it makes no sense.

Interesting analysis for those of us interested in hope and aware of the big graph that shows Reform peaked in October last year and is sliding inexorably down.
Peter Kellner, the elections expert and former YouGov president, has posted a good analysis of the results so far on his Substack blog. It is well worth reading in full, but here’s an extract.

Behind the impressive tally of Reform’s gains – likely to end up well over 1,000 – Nigel Farage should be privately worried. In last year’s local elections Reform won 41 per cent of all seats contested across England. On the basis of the overnight figures, this year’s tally is around 33 per cent. If there were no polls, and there had been no elections last year, this year’s figure would be astonishing. But we do have the record of recent polls and elections, and it seems clear that Reform has peaked …

In contrast to Reform, Labour has cause for relief, despite losing half the seats it was defending yesterday. It’s bad – and in normal times it would be catastrophic – but it’s not as bad as its record in local council by-elections over the past 12 months, where it hast lost three-quarters of the seats it was defending …

However, even on the most optimistic interpretation of Labour’s performance, the overnight figures contain a stark warning. John Curtice told BBC viewers in the early hours that while Labour has lost many SEATS to Reform, it has lost VOTES more to the Greens.

We are *never* going to have a real conversation about immigration in this country, or probably any country. A real conversation would start with recognising that there is no reasoned opposition to immigration, it's a mental illness that needs treatment on a social and personal level.

Genetic testing is now required to participate in women’s events in the Olympics. But the new policy oversimplifies biological sex and risks discrimination against some female athletes.

I have approved the Metropolitan Police's request to ban the Al Quds march.
I am satisfied doing so is necessary to prevent serious public disorder, due to the scale of the protest and multiple counter-protests, in the context of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Should a stationary demonstration proceed, the police will be able to apply strict conditions.
I expect to see the full force of the law applied to anyone spreading hatred and division instead of exercising their right to peaceful protest.

Just throwing it out there: telling people that they have legitimate grievances about immigration will never reduce the sense of grievance. This isn't how anything works and a government that paid even the merest attention to social science research would know their approach helps the far-right.

Why is Keir Starmer commenting on the assassination of a far-right commentator and activist in an entirely different country? This is like if Trump gave a big speech about someone from a UK left-wing Youtube channel if they were killed. Starmer didn't comment on the death of Melissa Hortman.
My thoughts this evening are with the loved ones of Charlie Kirk.
It is heartbreaking that a young family has been robbed of a father and a husband.
We must all be free to debate openly and freely without fear - there can be no justification for political violence.
