Well. What a week. The history of conflict in the Levantine Middle East stretches all the way back to the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans. To try to understand the clashes of cultures, religions and factions in this region requires weeks of heavy reading, almost always ending with the exhausted conclusion, “Wow — this is all very complicated. It feels like there maybe isn’t a straightforward solution to the whole thing after all.”
But the worst bit? I think we can all agree: it’s Ed Sheeran’s backing band quitting his world tour after things got heated on TikTok

For a super-online generation for whom Gaza is the defining issue, Sheeran is now being talked about far more than either Binyamin Netanyahu, who ordered the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza (unlike Sheeran!), or Khalil al-Hayya, the leader of Hamas, who helped plan the October 7 attacks (also unlike Sheeran!).
