My privileged take as an Eagles fan is that I just don't pay attention to "dead money" or "void years", etc. Howie Roseman handles that. Maybe someday that blows up in my face, but it's been over a decade of him keeping those plates spinning, I trust him until proven otherwise.

This was WILD. Tillis tries to absolve himself of the sin of voting for RFK Jr by telling Luke Russert he can get his baby vaccinated whenever he wants and not, you know, when the doctor recommends, so really RFK Jr being antivax is not a big deal.

but you can see their deep seeded fear/belief that the most extreme version of their politics is correct, just unpopular on a whole host of issues. Here's me writing in 2022 on abortion. www.nytimes.com/2022/05/07/o...
They wanted, as their website states now, the abolishment of abortion. No ifs, ands or 15-week limitations and no exceptions for cases of rape or incest. The belief that every single abortion was an act of murder was a bog-standard viewpoint, so commonplace as to pass by my eyes almost unnoticed.

The problem is that these beliefs, including sending women to prison for having abortions, aren't palatable to the broader public. Many Americans oppose some abortions, but very few oppose all abortions. A majority want abortions available during the first trimester and in cases of rape and incest. As National Review’s editors argued in 2015, while favoring abortion bans with zero exceptions “is a defensible position,” “it is a highly unpopular one.” Best, they argued, not to discuss it. Besides, the editors continued, “perhaps in a post-Roe v. Wade America a state or two would ban abortion even in cases of rape, and those seeking such abortions would have to cross state lines. But even that is on the far edge of possibility.”

you have a maniac who sees nonwhite kids at a Texas game and loses his mind, and you have the entire architecture of the American Right (notably, excluding numerous members of the GOP who might have to get votes someday) giving it full voice because they firmly believe that these views are *good*.

I'm writing something about this but a major flaw of the right-wing movement is the clear and obvious belief that racism, homophobia and misogyny are *correct*, but unpopular. so the most "forbidden" voices are obviously *right*, but voters aren't ready for it yet. This whole thing is an example.

they were *lying* when they were "worried" about Asian-American college applicants, and they are *lying* now when they're "worried" about "strivers." They do not want non-white people being in any way superior (or evident) to white people. that's it. that's the whole thing.

We really don't talk about how much cover the false claim that "all politicians lie" has given the GOP in the past 2 decades. Because it allows voters to discount things they don't agree with as "lies" and make up a completely subjective narrative of what their policies actually are.

School music programs are getting absolutely bodied by tariffs, per @nytimes.com: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/b...
The effective tariff rate on instruments in June was about 13 percent, said Cullen Hendrix, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. That was down from a peak of nearly 24 percent last September but more than twice as high as before Mr. Trump’s second term.
Band and orchestral instruments have been hit the hardest, he said. In the second quarter of this year, imports of instruments were down nearly 20 percent from the same period in 2024. Imports of orchestral string instruments, including violins, violas and cellos, dropped 50 percent. Brass instruments fell 43 percent.

“It’s hitting the horns, it’s hitting the strings, it’s hitting the percussion,” Mr. Hendrix said. “All of those things combined are kind of sapping the available pool of tools that we can provide these children to begin their journey.”
