This might be a radical thought but I would go Topper > Cora >> Mattingly. Leaving aside the cheating stuff, it isn’t that I think Topper is better at all the manager stuff we usually describe, I just think that time has past and I think Topper was a better collaborator and that fits my preferences

The difference between the national media+Phillies players and anyone who watched the Phillies about the success of Don Mattingly, Manager, is just absolutely enormous. He made a couple of ok decisions, he also was the probably the worst or second worst Phillies manager of the last 20 years.

Rebuilds don’t work unless you want to save ownership money. There is nothing a rebuilding team can do that a good team cannot. You just trade very good players for lottery tickets and set yourself back behind the teams good at everything

It's not Mattingly's fault that the Phillies went down with Duran on the mount while they were trying to have him get 6 (9?) outs. It is extremely Don Mattingly's fault that the rest of their bullpen was completely gassed and they needed to try to get 6 (9?) outs from Don Mattingly.

It was the correct move, Don Mattingly made a correct bullpen move. He put his closer in for the 7th and 8th because it was the best chance to see the 9th. Duran piped a 99.9 mph fastball that got hit. There is a litany of managers who lost with their closer standing in the bullpen.
