I'm optimistic, but a few things can be true: 1) the prognosticators are terrified of being wrong; 2) we've been burned by polling misses (or perhaps reading into polling data) before; 3) voters are really, really mad and will vote accordingly; 4) if you want a blue wave, you gotta vote.

Good thread. It's also getting harder to tell who is cynically combing through evidence to set up perjury traps for people they don't like (see also: Fauci) and who the True Believers are, but either way, they're looking for evidence to support their side and keep coming up short.

They're holding up a major escalation in Iran and a crackdown on abortion until after the midterms to limit political damage. To the extent that the last two years have been a right-wing smash-and-grab operation, the next two will be worse.

As one of the 450,000, I really hope this gets done. I had to switch to a less good, more expensive plan in July. This won't get fixed by open-enrollment because Johnson is going to keep Congress out until after the election, but it'd be cool if we could get some of those subsidies restored.

I recommend people read this to get a sense of the president's grave cognitive impairment. Trump is either unwilling or unable (or maybe both) to answer the questions he's actually asked, so he just rants and raves while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings

I don't want to take anything for granted and everyone should go vote, but I'm starting to wonder if all the cautious prognosticating—"Dems have the edge, but it's basically a toss up"—is more nobody wanting to be wrong than it is an accurate reflection of the environment.

I'm really enjoying that Republicans really thought the Jack Smith hearing today was gonna be a big gotcha, but all anyone is talking about is how dumb Sen. Schmitt is.

This is the consistent issue with this hearing is that Republicans are spinning up in these conspiracy theories that are just not supported by anything but wind and based internet posters. Here, Schmitt seems to confuse the Atlanta Hawks with the Iowa Hawkeyes, so that's fun.

This is... just not how insurance or the ACA work. If I sign up for insurance but don't file a claim, I'm not getting money. If I'm eligible for a subsidy, that money goes to the insurance company. I might even be paying a monthly premium. If this is fraud, it's the worst fraud scheme ever.

I'm mad about the ACA stuff because I freelance and get insurance through the NY exchange, I've gotten really jerked around this year insurance-wise because of the failure to renew the subsidies, and there's all this extra hassle because no one in charge knows what insurance is, apparently.

First of all Obamacare is expensive because Congress has failed to properly subsidize it. Second of all, even if people are committing ACA fraud, THEY AREN'T BUYING THINGS, because insurance subsidies and tax credits are not checks, that's not how insurance works, omg.
