A Shoreham cycle lane saw 30,000 trips and served five schools before West Sussex County Council removed it. We challenged the decision in court with support from the Cyclists’ Defence Fund. The council admitted it acted unlawfully and agreed to pay £25,000 towards legal costs.

Earned settlement: retrospective change is wrong but prospective change is even worse
Changing the rules for migrants already here is wrong and unfair but only affects a finite group of people. Extending default settlement to 10 years or more for everyone is a social policy disaster.

This is why cities need trees. Hard surfaces and parked cars can reach extreme temperatures, while shaded grass and tree-covered areas stay dramatically cooler. This is the urban heat island effect in one image: hard surfaces absorb and radiate heat, while vegetation and shade reduce it.

With the full caveat that I have never managed a govt dept, as Wes Streeting knows very well having been health secretary, investment in active travel *pays for itself many times over* in better public health outcomes etc. Cutting investment is often a false economy, as the UK knows to its cost.
Case in point: the Prime Minister just said defence is "a number one priority". 

Growth was meant to the number one priority, is it still?

There's not enough money for defence, but today the Government announced £4.5 BILLION for walking and cycling.

Make choices. Decide. Lead.

Our current methane emissions add roughly 0.6 degree of global warming and stopping them is the fastest way to reduce global warming. Now GWP* is used by politicians and lobbyists to say: "If we keep doing it, this 0.6 degrees would not increase further, so we have no impact on the climate."
