🗣️ “Using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.” That’s how LCR Transport Committee Chair Steve Foulkes described Merseyrail’s ban on non-folding e-bikes at yesterday’s meeting. The committee agreed to write to Merseyrail asking them to review the decision. Your voices are being heard.

Today we were outside Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as the Transport Committee met, joined by 200+ people standing against Merseyrail’s ban on non-folding e-bikes. Together, we then rode to Merseyrail HQ to hand over 100+ personal stories showing the impact of the ban.

“My father’s death still touches every part of our lives…” Anna’s father, Michael Mason, was killed while cycling. When no prosecution followed, his family faced a long fight for justice. Our Cyclists’ Defence Fund helped them pursue it. 25 years on, another family could need that same support.

Our Play Together on Pedals programme is helping children across North Lanarkshire build confidence, improve wellbeing and get more active. The results? 92% learned to ride independently within five sessions, while one school saw daily cycling rise from 3–4 pupils to around 10.

A Shoreham cycle lane saw 30,000 trips and served five schools before West Sussex County Council removed it. We challenged the decision in court with support from the Cyclists’ Defence Fund. The council admitted it acted unlawfully and agreed to pay £25,000 towards legal costs.
