Three panel comic. Panel 1: a little dog is sleeping on a couch, kicking its paws. A person says, “look! The little kicks!” Panel 2: in awe of the cuteness, the person continues, “what do you think he’s dreaming about?” Panel 3: in the dog’s dream, the pup is wearing a captain’s jacket, holding tightly to a wooden ship on stormy seas. In his other paw, he is gripping a harpoon as an enormous vacuum cleaner breaches violently from the water.

i do unironically think people that are cosmopolitan need sorta paradoxically be more chauvinist about it tbh. places and people that are cosmopolitan in outlook are better than places that are provincially minded. the kind of performative handwringing about not being 'authentic' is bad and weak.

They worship and love death. It is their god
The Christofascists of today do not view themselves as existing outside
Christianity, but it can be said that they worship a different god: the god of the plantation, concentration camps, prisons, punishing your enemies, apartheid, and genocide. Again, Söelle says as much, stating that in the Religious Right, she saw
"a God without justice, a Jesus without a cross, an Easter without a cross-what remains is a metaphysical Easter Bunny in front of the beautiful blue light of the television screen, a betrayal of the disappointed, a miracle weapon in service of the mighty."
Their political objectives reveal the god of Christofascism as a god of death, a god who proclaims a gospel of counterfeit life while feasting upon life itself. Within this god's political project, being a good

lot of “THIS JOB WILL BE DISPLACED BY AI” stuff doesn’t answer the question of “who has legal liability if a mistake is made?” Google is gonna be liable? OpenAI? If that’s your answer then yeah but a lot of human industry is buttressed by “who gets sued” when a mistake is made.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal
Moist had worked hard at his profession and considered himself pretty good at it, but if he had been wearing his hat, he would have taken it off right now. He was in the presence of a master. He could feel it in the hand, see it in that one commanding eye. Were things otherwise, he would have humbly begged to be taken on as an apprentice, scrub the man’s floors, cook his food, just to sit at the feet of greatness and learn how to do the three-card trick using whole banks. If Moist was any judge, any judge at all, the man in front of him was the biggest fraud he’d ever met. And he advertised it. That was . . . style. The pirate curls, the eyepatch, even the damn parrot. Twelve and a half percent, for heaven’s sake, didn’t anyone spot that? He told them what he was, and they laughed and loved him for it. It was breathtaking. If Moist von Lipwig had been a career killer, it would have been like meeting a man who’d devised a way to destroy civilizations.

Toyota's unease at being associated with the Taliban and Al Qaeda is evident. In its September statement, the company said,
'Toyota does not have a sales or distribution channel in Afghanistan, and we do not export vehicles to that country."
Somewhat less laconic was Wade Hoyt, Toyota's spokesman in New York, who put the best corporate spin on the situation this week.
"It is not our proudest product placement," he said. "But it shows that the Taliban are looking for the same qualities as any truck buyer: durability and reliability."
