I am a professor of economics at the University of Calgary. My research is in tax and transfer policy, inequality, and intersectional and gender-based policy analysis, and I work on measurement questions in research evaluation. I am writing to request the data and code underlying The Equity-Excellence Trade-off: A Study of EDI in the Canada Research Chairs Program (Macdonald-Laurier Institute, September 2026).

So that you have it up front: I intend to publish this request. I will note in due course whether the materials were provided.

I could not locate a data availability statement or a replication archive in the report or on the MLI page for it. Specifically, I would be grateful for:

1. The analysis file underlying Figures 11 and 12, including the estimation sample.
2. The code used to construct the h-index measures, including the rule for computing the h-index in the year prior to appointment, and the retrieval date of the OpenAlex data.
3. The race and sex classifications assigned to each chairholder, together with the method used to produce them — the model or dictionary applied, the prompts or parameters, the coding protocol for the human reviewer, and any measures of intercoder agreement or validation against the program's published self-identification statistics.
4. Regression tables for the models presented in Figures 11 and 12, with coefficients, standard errors, and cell counts.
5. An accounting of the movement from the 2,008 profiles described in the data section to the estimation samples of 1,781 to 1,906.
6. The specification underlying the raw-scale coefficients of 4.8 and 3.2 h-index points, given that the displayed models are estimated on log-transformed h-indices.

I am also interested in whether you considered merging the chairholder registry with the councils' published awards data — SSHRC's awards search, NSERC's open awards files, and CIHR's funding decisions database. Tho…
