I'm just looking at how flimsy section 16 rights are in practice with the assumption that it continues to exist so long as Quebec needs to be accommodated.

But I'm still stuck on the assumption that francophone rights are underpinned by Quebec. I get some of the calculus. But it's uncomfortable calculus.

The justice system doesn't launch formal government probes just because internet strangers are JAQing off in public about a public photograph. If you ever find an actual legal predicate, let me know.

Knowing a scumbag isn't a criminal offense. You seem to be wanting a whitewater or Benghazi shaped investigation before coming up with a predicate.

I had it covered in a course on revolutions (post French Revolution) 3rd year, and briefly on a course on the soviet Union (3rd year since it helped explain the first Duma, but more on how things shook out rather than blow by blow). It was briefly covered in 4th year European historiography

Pakistan supported the Taliban because it got the Pashtun militias to stop pushing for independence of the Pashtun territories from the Pakistani state for a bit and focused most of their energy on Afghanistan and the US for a while. It was always kicking the can down the road but they got 20 years.

So they delegated the power to the executive since they need to win a plurality of the electoral college and are less likely to do parochial tariffs (the chicken tax and softwood lumber I to V being the obvious exceptions that prove the rule before Trump)

Before 1930, Congress loved pork barrel tariffs to protect against foreign competition, protect a domestic manufacturer or knife another state. During the great depression, confess realized they were too parochial with the tariff power (especially after the income tax)

Smoot-hawley allows for the president to impose a tariff of no more than 50% ad valorum or ban the importation of a good if they make a determination that a us made good is given less favourable treatment than another foreign good.

Since my request went ignore on linkedin
Dear Professor Kaufmann, Mr. Rasmussen, Mr. Davids, and Mr. Crowley,

I am a professor of economics at the University of Calgary. My research is in tax and transfer policy, inequality, and intersectional and gender-based policy analysis, and I work on measurement questions in research evaluation. I am writing to request the data and code underlying The Equity-Excellence Trade-off: A Study of EDI in the Canada Research Chairs Program (Macdonald-Laurier Institute, September 2026).

So that you have it up front: I intend to publish this request. I will note in due course whether the materials were provided.

I could not locate a data availability statement or a replication archive in the report or on the MLI page for it. Specifically, I would be grateful for:

1. The analysis file underlying Figures 11 and 12, including the estimation sample.
2. The code used to construct the h-index measures, including the rule for computing the h-index in the year prior to appointment, and the retrieval date of the OpenAlex data.
3. The race and sex classifications assigned to each chairholder, together with the method used to produce them — the model or dictionary applied, the prompts or parameters, the coding protocol for the human reviewer, and any measures of intercoder agreement or validation against the program's published self-identification statistics.
4. Regression tables for the models presented in Figures 11 and 12, with coefficients, standard errors, and cell counts.
5. An accounting of the movement from the 2,008 profiles described in the data section to the estimation samples of 1,781 to 1,906.
6. The specification underlying the raw-scale coefficients of 4.8 and 3.2 h-index points, given that the displayed models are estimated on log-transformed h-indices.

I am also interested in whether you considered merging the chairholder registry with the councils' published awards data — SSHRC's awards search, NSERC's open awards files, and CIHR's funding decisions database. Tho…

Eric Kaufmann @epkaufm is one of the most globally influential Canadian public intellectuals.
