Some dude explaining why he doesn’t read books. (From a video of a woman quoting a passage from a book she likes)
Books are second-hand experience, and importing them into my system risks diluting the structures I carved through direct contact with the world. Jade reads to feel held; I read the world by letting it bite. Fiction is beautiful, sure
- but beauty is bait, and I don't let bait rewire my neural architecture.

Huang differentiates between "lower-level knowledge," like basic math literacy, and "higher level" understanding, but evidently misses what that framing implies: that the "higher order" stuff builds off of the "lower-level." Without the "lower-level" stuff, the whole system collapses.

A digital illustration of an attempt to make a fake illuminated manuscript. There’s a fancy illuminated drop capital M. Lots of medieval-type ornamentation, a little illustration in the corner of a rabbit with a battle ax having some sort of confrontation with a little bipedal lizard thing that has an arm instead of a neck and head which is holding a dagger. There’s an orange dragonish beast wrapped around the top of everything and lettering done in some kind of fanciful script reading ‘Maybe it will happen today’

From @valeriocapraro.bsky.social — another incident of OpenAI stealing the work of mathematicians and claiming it as their own. It shouldn’t be surprising that this is the way OpenAI behaves. Culture is top-down and Altman is a compulsive liar
Valerio Capraro @ValerioCapraro on X:

BREAKING: OpenAl might have stolen another major proof.
In a detailed Mastodon post, which I report in full in the comments, Andreas Thom presents several pieces of evidence suggesting that OpenAl may have trained Astra on
conversations in which he and Gábor Kun were working on Gromov's soficity conjecture, one of the ten problems OpenAl later announced Astra had solved.
I know Andreas. We met several times early in our careers. He is an exceptional mathematician, a leading expert on sofic and hyperlinear groups, and one of the most respected scholars in the field. He has spent two decades working on this problem.

It would mean that unpublished human work was absorbed into a model and then presented to the world as a breakthrough by the model itself.
And if the allegations raised by Levent Alpöge, Tristan Buckmaster, and now Andreas Thom are all substantiated, we are no longer looking at isolated incidents.
We may be looking at one of the greatest intellectual scandals in the history of science.

In 2027, for the fourth year in a row, I’ll be introducing a budget amendment to end the data center sales tax exemption. I’ll also have the bill for a statewide data center moratorium, a bill to empower localities to enact data center moratoria and several other bills to fight data center sprawl.
“Virginia
“In 2026, Virginia lawmakers proposed ending the state's data-center sales-and-use-tax exemption through S.B. 30, Item 3-5.24 #3s, a member-request budget amendment sponsored by Senator Danica Roem. The amendment would have made the exemption unavailable to qualifying data-center operators and their tenants beginning July 1, 2026. A companion revenue amendment, S.B. 30, Item 0 #14s, projected roughly $1 billion in additional general-fund revenue in the first year and $1.1 billion in the second.
“Virginia lawmakers did not ultimately enact Roem’s proposed rollback of the data-center sales-tax exemption. Instead, the 2026 budget compromise preserved the exemption for qualifying data-center equipment while imposing a new $0.011-per-kilowatt-hour tax on data-center electricity consumption, making Virginia an example of policymakers shifting toward a new tax rather than eliminating the existing incentive.“
