Virginians are now voting to repeal the 2006 Marshall-Newman anti-marriage equality constitutional amendment and replace it with an affirmative right to marry. Marshall-Newman is a vestige of the calculated anti-gay fear-mongering flamed nationwide by Rove for political gain during the W years.

In 2027, for the fourth year in a row, I’ll be introducing a budget amendment to end the data center sales tax exemption. I’ll also have the bill for a statewide data center moratorium, a bill to empower localities to enact data center moratoria and several other bills to fight data center sprawl.

There’s a conservative op-ed in RTD that… erm… made a case for how productive the Virginia General Assembly was this year on big ticket items backed by a strong majority of Virginia voters. And criticizing us for taxing data centers is quite a choice. Y’all can feel free to run on that in 2027. 👍

Minimum-wage legislation raises the rate to $13.75 in 2027 and $15 by 2028, with automatic inflation adjustments thereafter. Paid sick-leave rules requiring one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked (phased in by employer size beginning in 2027) and salary-transparency mandates (requiring pay ranges in job postings and banning salary-history inquiries, effective July 2026) have been enacted. This was a policy choice by the federal Republican trifecta, including their members from Virginia, when they ended the enhanced tax credits. Our Democratic trifecta in Virginia, meanwhile, passed a budget this year to clean up their mess with $150M available when enrollment begins in November.
