it is interesting that I can't find any mainstream media coverage of Altman's sister Annie going viral on social media over the weekend for uploading footage of the first hour of her deposition in her lawsuit against him (one of two) in which she is alleging years of CSA

The push to make it so that "websites as a destination for humans is over" is an intentional move to violate the freedom to read of individuals and move access to information into a "pay to get an opaquely intermediated version from a nontransparent source" model.

The Internet, Social Media and AI are facilitating the churning out of obscene atrocity denial propaganda to deterritorialised global audiences in a way that feels unlike any prior epoch, and I feels like nobody in power is even willing to confront that because they expect to exploit it themselves.

PANEL 2: MATTIE peers at the laptop, which just says KILL ALL HUMANS on it, with a blinking cursor. Another WOMAN runs away.

Please consider not saying that some AI models or some statistical models are good, useful, beneficial, whatever else positive, in science if it's not your research area. It's ok not to know things. It's ok not to both side things. It's ok to ask colleagues who are experts.

The “AI copies itself to another computer” meme and the “recursive self improvement” meme are both ideas originating in science fiction, but which sound technically plausible enough due to the way digital software and computer networks work that the non-experts building this stuff believe them

Emphasizing purity over power is the biggest problem of the progressive movement. Many people proudly declare they would rather have perfect allies than tangible gains. When they cannot actually purge their coalition, they spread a stab in the back myth, and sell apathy and despair.

Worth repeating: when the far right says “protect our women and children” the only word they care about is “our.” The second women don’t submit, this is the end result. That why a large percentage of far right anti-immigration‘protesters’ get arrested for violence against women and children.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

These gloves don't cause neuromuscular incapacitation the way that a taser does. In fact, they only work when applied directly to bare skin. These aren't made for apprehending anyone. These have one and only one use: causing extreme pain to already-restrained captives. In plain language: torture.

I write about this in the book. Increasingly, the proposition from these companies is “let us surveil you constantly.” That’s it! That’s the deal. In return you get the (supposed) benefit of a machine that “knows” you, whatever that’s supposed to mean. finance.yahoo.com/technology/a...
OpenAI's success in hardware will hinge on bringing a novel approach to the market — something it aims to do with the smart speaker. For instance, the device's technology is meant to become increasingly personalized and proactive as it gains a deeper understanding of its owner over time, according to the people.

OpenAI envisions the device anticipating needs, surfacing information proactively and serving as an expert on its user, they said. Though the speaker is designed to stay in the home, it will be easy to move around the house.OpenAI believes the product's defining feature will be its personality and ability to connect on a humanlike level with users. The speaker incorporates mechanical elements that can move on their own, creating a sense that it is alive and not just an object responding to commands. The machine also will draw on personal information such as emails to better understand its owner.
