Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
@NYCMayor
The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.

Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future.

Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

@NYCMayor Mamdani's antisemitism strategy finally landed
and only confirms what we already knew: this mayor does
not treat the hate facing Jewish New Yorkers as an
emergency and refuses to acknowledge the different shapes
it takes. Since he took office 271 days ago, ADL has recorded
hundreds of antisemitic incidents in NYC, nearly 40% of
which were related to Israel.
After throwing out the IHRA definition on his first day in
office, nine months later, his signature strategy still refuses
to replace it with any working definition of antisemitism. He
has looked the other way as flags glorifying terror groups
have been flown outside synagogues, a deliberate act meant
to intimidate families walking in to pray, and as crowds
gathered outside houses of worship voicing support for the
same groups. At the same time, he continues prioritizing his
anti-Israel agenda over the basic promises he made to
Jewish New Yorkers.
Our expectations have not changed: zero tolerance for
antisemitism and extremism in city government, real
protection for Jewish institutions, a clear and formal
definition of antisemitism that the city actually uses, and city
contracts, pensions and procurement kept free of ideological
boycotts. ADL will keep tracking and fighting antisemitism in
New York City and across the country, whether or not this
mayor is willing to do the same.

Consider yourself Oliver Twist's friend! He'd love to consider himself one of your family (as long as you don't have any other cats). This big guy is a big love bug who loves brushing, pets and snacks. And he's proof that big cats can jump: start waving a wand toy around this fun fellow and he'll soon be stalking, pouncing and leaping in the air. Will you love him as long as he needs you (for the rest of his life)? Oliver isn't a fan of other cats, so would prefer to be the solo king of his castle, soaking up all the love. Imagine for 1 second that you have it wrong and Jews are telling the truth. That the genocide libel is bs. That Hamas are terrorists. That you are being manipulated to desire the removal of Jews from society.

Do you understand if we’re right, that makes you the millions of European and African and Asian friends and neighbors who wiped millions of us off 3 continents just a few decades ago?

What’s more likely - that we, the tiny minority who have been libeled and blamed and persecuted by every society in which we’ve ever lived for centuries, are the bad guys? Or that you, the non-Jewish masses who have hounded and defamed and slaughtered us all over the world over and over and over again, have once again been suckered in by propaganda you unquestioningly latch onto because it gives you a scapegoat to blame for your own problems and sins?

“History repeats itself… except this time! I’m different!” Is essentially what every Jew hater tells themselves. No. You are no different than the Iraqi or Soviet or German or Algerian who turned on their Jewish neighbors the second they got the societal green light. Never in the history of the world has the group persecuting Jews been “on the right side of history.” Not once.

Courage isn’t going with the crowd to hate on us some more. That’s easy. Courage is looking in the mirror, in a history book, at what is happening to Jews in our society, and saying stop this train, I’m getting off.

New: Macklemore says Robert Kraft — who owns Gillette Stadium, where Macklemore & Ed Sheeran were to perform later this month — called Sheeran. Kraft rallied other owners together behind an ultimatum for Sheeran: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you won't be allowed in our venues.

I'm not sure how to start this. So I'm going to speak from the heart and share the truth. Ed Sheeran and his team have made the decision to remove me from The Loop tour.
But before I get into it, I want to say something that should be obvious. In this moment I think it matters. I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families.

The victims are the Palestinian people. The men, women and children who have been killed, starved, displaced and forced to live through unimaginable violence. More than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza alone. People are being killed today, and people will be killed tomorrow. I want to make sure that as I tell this story, we don't lose sight of that.

Ed is my friend. I've known him for 13 years. We've shared late nights, studio sessions and stages. He has this infectious magic about him that I've grown to love. I consider him a brother. And because of that, we've had some difficult conversations this past week. The type of talks rooted in love and respect for one another that still end in a place of fundamental disagreement. Nothing I'm writing here is out of spite or because I want to tear down his character. But as I told Ed multiple times on the phone, our friendship can't change my responsibility to tell the truth about what happened.

Last Monday, in the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said at MetLife, Ed told me that Robert Kraft called him. We were scheduled to play Gillette Stadium later this month, which is owned by the Kraft Group. Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other
stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.

Ed was in …What I said at MetLife I have been saying on stages around the world for almost three years. So why is it an issue now? Because now I'm sharing a stage with one of the biggest artists in the world, in some of the biggest stadiums in America. At a certain level of exposure, "Free Palestine" becomes too much of a risk. If I kept doing the shows, saying Free Palestine, with Ed implicitly supporting it, the crowd getting loud and showing undeniable support for Palestinian liberation, what artist might speak out next? The stage becomes resistance. Maybe that's why this time it became so important to silence me.

And one of the most effective ways to enforce that silence has been to weaponize the accusation of antisemitism. Antisemitism is real. And that is exactly why the word matters too much to be used as a shield against criticism of the Israeli state. When criticizing Israel, opposing Zionism or saying "Free Palestine" gets conflated with hatred of Jewish people, it doesn't protect Jewish people. It protects Israel from accountability.

I hope this isn't the end of my relationship with Ed.
Thirteen years of friendship doesn't disappear because of one painful disagreement. I hope we both continue listening, studying what is happening in Palestine and wrestling with what neutrality means in a moment like this. My door will always be open to continuing that conversation.

When my brother Omar was doing the subtitles for the video I posted from MetLife, I thanked him. He told me there's a phrase in Arabic:
لا شكر على واجب
"La shukra ala wajeb." There is no thanks for a duty.
That stayed with me. Because that's what this has become for me and millions of others around the world. A duty. Not something deserving of praise or gratitude. Not brave. Human.

Who is winning the internet, who is getting canceled, who gets to play the stadium and who doesn't, all of it becomes so small when held against what we are actually witnessing in Gaza and the West Bank. An entire people be…

Ed Sheeran’s fans came for a concert, not performative, biased and hateful anti-Israel “activism” from his opener, Macklemore.

Imagine being a Jewish or Israeli fan who came with family or friends to enjoy the show, only to be confronted with this hostility from the stage. Or feeling so unwelcome by the opening act that you leave early.

This isn’t new for Macklemore. He has a record of demonizing Israel and Israelis, falsely accusing Israel of genocide and engaging in antisemitic rhetoric and behavior.

This is completely unacceptable.

Not sponcon, a friend told me about this—I prefer physical media and have many of these in other editions (and 6 of these in hardback), BUT: PDFs of 40 anthologies (!!) of some of the greatest comics ever made, each w/lengthy intro, for $25, supporting charity to boot, hard to pass up! Ends Friday:
Excerpt from intro to the MASTER RACE anthology:

holds the jeweler’s magnifier, and the foreshort- ened fingers two panels later as he inspects the tiara. A pivotal point is reached in page 5’s sec- ond panel (p. 89), as the hand cradles the stolen key — the only panel in the story with a solid black background, underscoring its importance. Lastly, behold the composition commencing that remarkable final page: a collage of hands frantically trying key after key.
Like Unger’s desperate need to escape the locksmith’s shop, Krigstein sought to break free of the limitations inherent in commercial com- ics. During his peak EC period he approached comics as a fine artist approached a blank can- vas — a problem to be solved to the utmost of one’s training, ability, and imagination. If that meant drawing hundreds of keys, he took to the task with courage, skill, and passion.
But once Krigstein began challenging EC’s prefabricated breakdowns, the situation grew more complicated. “I wanted panels; I was desperate for panels. And [more pages] is what they didn’t give me, so, out of despera- tion, I began subdividing the panels. The point came where it was simply absurd to have six panels for a certain amount of text. I began to see twelve panels, eighteen panels, in the same amount of text. I began to see people doing all sorts of things, and it became ridiculous to have them doing all this stuff in six panels.”
He came closest to fulfilling his ambition in his next story, the work in which he felt he
“reached a high point in developing my break- down ideas.”
“Master Race” (p. 91) was originally a six- page story, but when Krigstein read the script he immediately realized that the page count wasinadequate. “What happened was I received this ... story and read it, and it was just the most explosive story that I had ever come across in my work in the field. I called up Bill [Gaines] and told him that I wanted to do it as a twelve- pager, and he immediately said, ‘Twelve pages, i…

Sickening to hear the head of the "Jewish Democratic Council" repeat a defamatory lie, concocted by centrist smearmongers and their MAGA brethren, that debases the very meaning of antisemitism.

None of this is surprising from Dem leaders, who prefer to be toothless opposition to Nazis than to govern with leftists, but watching every broadcast media company spread defamatory lies about antisemitism is delirium-inducing. Oh well! Gut Shabbos!!

Comic from January 2025 about how Israel, and communal support for the indefensible, are the greatest engines of antisemitism in modern history. Democrats reading their fascist talking points, trivializing antisemitism, and spreading defamatory lies are a danger to American Jews.

Cory started hyperventilating when he realized he was late to the "Lie About Antisemitism to Help the Fascists Win" orgy.

Cory Booker
@CoryBooker
Hasan Piker’s dangerous and hateful language targeting Jewish Americans has no place in our civic discourse. Suggesting that Jewish Americans bear responsibility for hatred or violence directed against them is wrong, dangerous, and antisemitic.

We can, and should, argue fiercely over policy. We should have meaningful dialogue and debate about the policies and actions of the Israeli government and American foreign policy. That is the lifeblood of democracy. But that’s not what this is.

No American should be told that their political beliefs make them responsible for hatred or violence directed against them. There is a bright line between vigorous debate and rhetoric that stokes hatred toward our neighbors. Mr. Piker has crossed that line, repeatedly and unmistakably.

I don't know how anybody can say the Democratic Party is a safe place for Jews when its leadership has spent days publicly lying about antisemitism and defaming a pro-Jewish anti-fascist while the government is crawling with Nazis.

Gottheimer: Hasan Piker is an anti-Semite. I don't think he
would claim otherwise. Nobody should campaign with him or
repost him. Anyone who is quiet right now is complicit. We
should vote to condemn him when we get back to congress.

Republicans are attacking Hasan Piker and candidates that
campaign with him because he alienates swing voters. Don't
blame the people who warned you.
Blame yourselves for not listening to the warnings.
You can fight Trump's hatemongering without supporting
hatemongers on the left. It's actually consistent to oppose
both.

Besides lying about Hasan's remarks, Micah should apologize for plagiarizing from a comic:
Micah Lasher
@MicahLasher
Defenders — and some critics — of Hasan Piker just don’t get it. The issue isn’t (just) that he lumps all Jews together and holds us all accountable for the supposed evils of Israel. It’s that his nonstop drive to demonize the world’s sole Jewish state, along with those who support its survival, crosses the line — by miles — between criticism and Jew hatred of the ancient variety.

Also, Mr. Piker, Zionism is in fact bound up with Judaism. It is not “false conflation.” Yes, some Jews are anti-Zionists. And yes, you have helped turned the Z-word into a slur such that large numbers of Jews, particularly younger ones, disown it partly out of misunderstanding. But when Jews are attacked for supporting Israel, they are being attacked for a core part of their Jewish identity. It is Jew hatred, it is unacceptable, and your rhetoric encourages it. Spare us all your taxonomy of good Jews and bad Jews.

do not let a coordinated republican smear campaign become “reality.” my argument against the dangerous false conflation between zionism and judaism which in turn increases antisemitism is now turned on it’s head. zionism is not judaism. antizionism is not antisemitism. x.com/repjeffries/st…

reposting hannah's words because i couldn't have said it better
I'm so grateful that Mark Ruffalo drew a connection between the Ellisons
providing military technology to Israel during a genocide and their
unprecedented media takeover-and pointed out that this is a dangerous
consolidation of power that could ultimately be used against us.
The idea that he only said these things because the Ellisons are Jewish is
LUDICROUS. Is it also antisemitic to point out that Safra Catz, the Oracle
executive vice chair who boasted about the *profoundly scary technology*
provided to the ID, also sits on Paramount's board? Or that Larry Ellison
has been buying favor with Trump by donating tens of millions to his
political efforts for years? Or that he once offered Netanyahu a lucrative
Oracle post?
This is criticism of RIGHT WING technofeudalist oligarchs who are in the
process of carrying out the largest media acquisition in history. Period end
of story.
People are not too stupid to see these obvious connections. If you want to
make it about the Ellisons being Jewish, then you are the one being
antisemitic.
And ill say it till I'm blue in the face: every time zionists equate criticism of
israel, its genocide, or anyone who supports it to antisemitism, they rob the
word of all of its meaning. For those of us who ACTUALLY care about jewish
salet. we wandthat word to mean something so that when ews at actual w
in danger it's taken seriously.
And, as Mark has been saying for months, opposing this merger is also about
fighting for the working class of Hollywood: the crews and other workers
that we artists claim to care so much about. who could lose thousands of jobs
if it goes through.
All of …From Museum of Degenerates:

Far-right ringmaster Ben Shapiro, who has
spent much of his career championing Christianity under the
guise of "Judeo-Christianity," has obsessively railed against
the vast majority of American Jews, whom he calls "Jews In
Name Only," who are "not authentically Jewish," who "plague"
and "undermine" Judaism from within, and who "do not care
about Israel." Minus the irony, intelligence, self-awareness,
and bathos, it reads like the closing of the imagined obituary
in Philip Roth's Sabbath's Theater: "Mr. Sabbath did nothing
for Israel." But the smear that secular Jews are both fake and
uniquely villainous has uncorked geysers of bigotry guzzled
by some of the most violent antisemites in the country. The
founder of the fascist Proud Boys militia borrowed Shapiro's
language, decrying "secular Jews, atheists ... [who] tend not
really to be Jewish. I call them JINOs, Jews In Name Only."
