PLEASE NOTE on the recent SCOTUS per curiam decision: existing law blocks most states from purging their voting rolls within 90 days of an election. This decision is not likely to impact the midterms, and also the use of the SAVE program (different from the SAVE act) is VOLUNTARY.

Just once in my life I would like to see a Democrat being interviewed by right wing media like Fox News or right wing media like every single other outlet treat their questions with the contempt they deserve. I know it's not going to fix everything or maybe even anything but how much coverage and how much groundswell of excitement from the base do you think it would inspire if when asked about "boys in girls sports" or some other stupid fucking culture war distraction one of them finally said "What the fuck are you talking about man? You sound like a dumb asshole right now."

What's the worst that's going to happen the New York Times is gonna work overtime to make sure you don't get elected? They were already doing that buddy.

You simply say "Are you stupid? Do you think I am stupid? And do you think all of the people watching at home are stupid? Everyone sees through what you are doing. Using one group as a scapegoat for the very real problems everyone has – all caused by Republicans by the way – unlike this fake one you have made up. Dumb asshole."

Just go on the attack for once instead of sitting there trying to please your enemy who is in the process of trying to humiliate you.

And if you want to say something else true that almost no Democrat ever says for some reason you can top it off with a “Every single Republican in our lifetime has sought to make our lives worse in every way possible. I’d like to try to stop that.”

Here’s the thing about Christ’s return. Christ said specifically that he would return as the naked, the hungry, the thirsty, the prisoner, the immigrant. Jesus has never stopped coming back. American Christians have never stopped killing him.

We need to **eliminate** emperors, not keep recreating them in a new form. No one man should have as much power as Musk and Trump are given. Only the worst kind of people even WANT that much power, and being given so much power makes them even worse, creates a feedback loop with their worst impulses

Presidential abuses are worth checking because they're abuses. Standing up for rights is worth it because they're rights. Trying to help free Abrego Garcia and others unjustly imprisoned was good because they were unjustly imprisoned. All true, even if polls don't say it's voters' top priority.

A perverse incentive of Callais: the more racist a party is, the more its gerrymander is insulated from any VRA challenge. boltsmag.org/scotus-calla...
"Levitt: And I think this is worse than blessing partisan gerrymandering: It incentivizes partisan gerrymandering in the worst possible way. The more racist you are as a party, the more insulated you are from Voting Rights Act liability under this decision. If you can make all of your partisan cues about race, then you will never be able to disentangle the two, and you will never face VRA liability. If there were a party called the Klan party, right now, it would trigger an awful lot of nonwhite opposition based on the party’s platform. But this opinion says, you have to set the party’s platform entirely aside to figure out if there’s been any damage based on race. So the more you can tie the two together, the more insulated you are. That means the most racist partisan gerrymandering is going to be the most immune from a VRA challenge. "

Adam Kotsko:
The question about Trump’s trajectory all along has been how he kept the scam going. He can’t code-switch or self-censor. Everyone who encounters him knows exactly who he is, immediately. The answer, I believe, is that he uses his manifest incapacity as a kind of superpower. Everyone who enters into business with him and sees his gleeful desire to cheat and steal and defraud thinks to themselves, “I can use this.” They don’t realize that he is too impulsive to be durably manipulable and that he has elevated betrayal into a perverse Kantian maxim. Everyone, everyone who joins forces with him loses, but everyone equally thinks that they are the ones who have seen through the ruse and can use him “as a tool,” to use a popular current-day phrase. The fact that they are obviously—even definitionally—smarter than him blinds them, makes them stupider than the stupidest man alive.

I can frame this using Wilhoit’s Law: they tend to assume we’re just advocating for a differently structured hierarchy of who gets protected vs bound by the law, not advocating for the elimination of the double standard entirely.
