Think I might have to mute "plague" for a while. I, too, can look up yersina pestis in Wikipedia, but that does not make me an expert.

Democratic elected officials, to the voters they are meant to serve and represent: "THIS IS ON ~YOU~." Please be for real and do something. If you tell me there's nothing you can do, please quit public life forever immediately. You are an embarrassment, and, honestly, I rather detest you.

Read this in a Gartner report on HR trends for 2026. Did it happen? "A decade ago, coding bootcamps retrained bluecollar workers as software engineers. In 2026, we’ll see retraining and apprenticeship programs emerge to help digital workers transition into skilled trade professions."

Shots in North Cambridge at 3:20. (Now when I hear something that could be shots I check the time.) Apparently at the MBTA station? Injured person taken to hospital, sez police report. News choppers overhead gathering video for the evening show. Too many shootings in my painfully gentrified nabe.

Look. He (or some apologist) is going to say he meant that higher oil prices are a small price to pay to prevent Iran from nuking LA or SD. One of the perks of being so incoherent. Not only can supporters read anything they want into anything he says; everything can be walked back.

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

Oh, hey. I've gotten into the habit of doing some extra work on Monday nights because that's how things are in 2026. The extra work I do is to end-run around some passive-aggressive bullshit my manager does to some of the people we work with. And yet tonight I'm not into it.

Everything is getting more expensive, but if you want something to exist, you have to spend money, recommend it to others, and say a prayer if/when private equity buys it. Restaurants, indie ice cream shops, movies, news outlets, clothing, art, music, live comedy, food banks, mutual aid orgs, etc.

I understand that paywalls are annoying, but the grim reality for everything right now, is if you want something to exist, you have to put money towards it. Every creative person is having their life's work hoovered up by AI companies. Layoffs never end. Private equity keeps making things worse.

People are STILL working this way! It’s not just that a better world is possible — it already EXISTS. We can nurture it.

"This is not a place of honor, but it could be a place of hope". I remixed Warde's "This Is Printing-Office" & Sandia Labs' nuclear waste report (italics) w/my own critical tech text. From my 🎨 archive & press: store.wolfproofpress.com/product/prin...
Photo of a letterpress print on cream paper with copper-brown ink. It says "This Is A Printing-Office":
THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE
Like all technology: human choice, if evil or good
This place is not a place of honor but it could be a place of hope
Refuge of arts, craft, community, learning
a megaphone for justice, fearless truth slipping bit rot & digital censorship: or playing at a whitewashed past; to pretend away present fascism
The center of danger is here; the center of hope is here
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours (the possibility, too) From this place you may send words of justice, liberation, reparation, collective care: or serving capital, stoking hate
A press is but its printers
Friend you stand on ground
You make sacred—or not
THIS is a PRINTING-OFFICE
Remixed text (in italics) from Beatrice Warde & Sandia National Labs; & new text by Amanda Wyatt Visconti, VA Ctr. for the Book". An image of a printing press is in the bottom right corner.Digital composite of a screenshot of the text of Beatrice Warde's original poem, followed by a website's contextualizatipn that "This fabulous text by Beatrice Warde was originally printed in 1932 to show Eric Gill's new Perpetua typeface for Monotype." My caption is "why post something popularized as a showcase of serial rapist eric gill's work in your printshop?!" and "So I remixed it with a future-proof nuclear waste site warning report" by a screenshot from a Wikipedia article about the 1991 Sandia Labs report that includes the text "this place is not a place of honor.
no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing
valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger". Warde's poem's text is: "THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE
CROSSROADS OF CIVILIZATION
REFUGE OF ALL THE ARTS
AGAINST THE RAVAGES OF TIME
ARMORY OF FEARLESS TRUTH
AGAINST WHISPERING RUMOUR
INCESSANT TRUMPET OF TRADE
FROM THIS PLACE WORDS MAY FLY ABROAD
NOT TO PERISH ON WAVES OF SOUND
NOT TO VARY WITH THE WRITER'S HAND
BUT FIXED IN TIME HAVING BEEN VERIFIED IN PROOF
FRIEND YOU STAND ON SACRED GROUND
THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE"Closeup on that screenshot of a website's transcription of Warde's poem and contextualization of the poem, circled in red by me with my added text "excuse me?! serial rapist eric gill?!" Full screenshot text: "THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE

I am so tired of Jonestown being a stock reference for “haha, you’re in a cult.” 918 people died, most against their will, and still it has become shorthand for how stupid you think someone is. It's the McDonald's hot coffee incident of mass death — universally referenced, entirely misremembered.
