Fun fact: Infotainment screens are completely unregulated in the United States. Car companies can design them however they like, regardless of how distracting their touchscreens might be.

Eastbound line 1 has been stopped for over 30 mins now during Monday morning rush hour. 🙃 We are getting regular "service is delayed, we will be moving shortly" updates but no eta on when service may be fixed, and no sign of R1 yet. September is going to be a disaster.

They "want" more people to use public transit (or visit downtown), but they also subject people to 20m-1h wait times on every leg of the journey. Once people buy a car because you made weekend travel horrific, they're not going to ditch it for weekday travel. Think! @helps.octranspo.com

One of the more frustrating arguments from the city yesterday as to why they're keeping a whole 13 parking spots instead of widening the sidewalks further was due to multi-unit housing needing parking... The housing type that objectively has the lowest car ownership rates and walks the most?
An image from the city of Ottawa's transportation trends report on "Daily mode share by trip origin". The table shows the downtown core having under 30% of trips done by vehicle and 44% done by walking. An image from the city of Ottawa's transportation trends report showing the vehicle ownership rates for different parts of the city. I’m all for saving money. But this all comes from the wrong place: deferring infrastructure investments is a quick way to kick the can down the road. In 20 years these politicians won’t be here but you’re failing pipes. Roads and community centres will be. And that’s when the bills will be due 1/

Blanket NROR is less confusing. Same with no parking any time along Bank through Glebe and OOS and hopefully Wellington West. Parking garage use and restricted side street parking + MORE FREQUENT public transit eliminates a lot of signs people have no time to read. Simplify the rules for everyone.

Centretowners don’t have an adult depth pool to jump in on hot days like today. We don’t build outdoor pools anymore. Austerity budgets mean we can’t fix the little things in a timely manner and we also don’t provide the public amenities that make cities fun to live in. I want better for all of us.

"Tierney says pedestrian safety must be the priority for the city, but there may be opportunities to adjust the no right turns on red light rules." Actually no right on red everywhere is SO MUCH SAFER for pedestrians! The only thing that will help congestion is better bike and transit options.

If someone chooses to live in a smaller home in the inner city in part to avoid a long commute, they generally don’t pressure society to build them a bigger house with more stuff. So if you choose a bigger stuff-filled house in the suburbs, don’t expect society to build you a fast car commute.

Like clockwork, whenever a driver kills a child we hear all about how the street has been dangerous for a while. We choose to make our streets unsafe for children. These deaths are policy choices. turnto10.com/news/local/n...
Child fatally struck riding bicycle in New BedfordResidents described Cherokee Street as a peaceful area where children are often seen playing, but several neighbors noted long-standing concerns regarding local driving habits.

Jim Pringle, a New Bedford resident, pointed out that the roadway can attract fast-moving vehicles due to its location."People go down this road a little bit fast because it's right off Acushnet Avenue," Pringle said. "But it's a great neighborhood. And kids are all over these streets all the time."

Some residents told NBC 10 that traffic on Cherokee Street has visibly increased since a traffic light was installed at the nearby intersection of Acushnet Avenue and Sassaquin Avenue. Some neighbors noted that drivers frequently use Cherokee Street as a cut-through to bypass the red light.

Desperately need drivers to remember that "don't block the intersection" includes crosswalks. You're not saving any time sitting here compared to waiting behind the stop line, and now pedestrians need to walk/roll in the car lane or squeeze between two cars (both dangerous options!) #autowa

Infuriating for them to talk about "crossing mid-block" when there are literally no crossings and this is the road. Damn it, get out of the cruiser and go see what the actual problem is, then push the city to put some pedestrian signals, or _something_. This is a deadly road and you're not helping.

It's your job as a driver to operate in such a manner that you do not hit things, even unexpected things. If there is poor visibility due to a lot of parked cars, you need to slow down such that you could safely avoid hitting someone who suddenly enters your path.
