Not sure if I'm supposed to wait for an official announcement on this one, but as it's available to order, I may as well share the link: goldsborobooks.com/products/the... Gender, trauma, toxic families, non-consensual shapeshifting ... and sprayed edges. What more could you want in a book

Took my violin to get serviced for... possibly the first time ever, and it's in for a week or so, which means I *will* be declining session invitations this week by telling people my fiddle is at the vet.

My hair is currently too long for a barber or to clipper cut it myself over the bathroom sink, so for the first time ever I am trying to find a hairdresser, and oh boy. I can't afford a haircut. I guess I'm growing my hair out indefinitely.

Sometimes my ereader eats the extra line breaks and I have to guess where they should have been (particularly for ebooks converted between formats, e.g. old Kindle books I've converted for Kobo). It's very confusing. Give us a wee dingbat.

Tried to log into Facebook on my phone. Couldn't remember my password. Tried inputting my phone number. It attempted to link my account to... somebody else's Facebook account? I'm not that person. So I said "this isn't me", and now they've locked that person's account down. I'm so confused.

One of the most niche bits of self-care I have ever done is get an erasure print about Section 28 that makes it about promoting homosexuality to children, frame it, and hang it above my drawing desk.
A photograph of my desk. A sketchbook lies on a small portable drawing board, with a stack of pens and a pot of brushes. Above it hangs a print with the phrase "children have an inalienable right to be gay" made by placing pink blocks over the words of a speech about Section 28. Below, paragraphs of Section 28 are written, passages erased with pink blocks to make it so that it is encouraging the promotion of homosexuality by local government authorities.

When I was about sixteen I tried to write a mystery/crime novel type thing, except I'm bad at plot and was worse then, so I never figured out who the murderer was myself and thus couldn't finish it. Turns out that's deeply unsatisfying. Later stole the best characters for a different book, though.

Still trying to find accommodation for a conference in Dublin and the price of it is honestly making me consider pulling out. How is anyone meant to afford visiting this city, for any reason?

When my sister was heavily pregnant she told the family chat she felt like a South London icon. When prompted to elaborate, she followed it with a picture of this walrus.

Just finished reading @finnlongman.com 's The Wolf and His King, which is absolutely stunning - I'm going to be thinking about it for a long time. (Bisclavret, identity, relationships with power and disability, fascinating use of POV, evocative setting, and a fascinating sense of minor chars.)

Have now bought my nephew two books in Manx to add to the books he already has in Irish, Welsh, French, and Cree. He is going to be SO confused when he learns to read but he's going to grow up knowing things I couldn't imagine as a child.

I've been trying to write openings of my next book for a couple of years now (yup, years) and I have reasonable stabs at openings for both narrators. Unfortunately they don't work together AT ALL. They belong to different books, frankly. I pin down one POV, I lose the other. It's killing me.

What are your favourite historical or fantasy or historical fantasy novels from, I don't know, c. 1950-1980 (especially but not exclusively from the UK)? What would you recommend to somebody who has particularly enjoyed Dorothy Dunnett and Rosemary Sutcliff, among others?

Today's AI marketing spam is like "um excuse me, did you know that your book metadata isn't labelling it as romance or romantasy? We must alert you to this terrible oversight". Ah yeah 'cause there's no other reason for that such as it Not Being Romantasy, of course.

A definition marked in the OED as "Obsolete" and dating to 1595-1728, when I'm certain I still see this word used this way on a regular basis.

I've forgotten how English works. Can you say things like "I was put to reflect on that" in English? "Is it any wonder I was put to reflect on it?" etc ??? On the one hand, it makes perfect sense to me. On the other hand, sometimes I do early modern Irish grammar in English, so

As a teenager, particularly an older teenager, I absolutely hated the idea that there were books I wasn't ready for because I was too young. How condescending! I could handle it! It wasn't like I didn't know the words! Currently rereading a book I was give at 18, read once, didn't "get", and... oh

Terrible man who suffers immensely, at least partially as a consequence of his own actions, but is also only about 70% as terrible as everybody thinks he is. Like there's some good in there. You have to dig for it and he's not going to make it easy. Also he's suffering. Can't stress that enough.

Some people enjoyed learning this word, so here are some words *I* had to look up this week: - hebetude - lucent - acidulous - rebarbative - whaup - whin - erumpent - thews I also learned another excellent word for, essentially, "bitter", but can't find it again. :( Sad times.

I hate that AI spam/scam emails have made me doubt literally every email that comes to my public author inbox. I *think* I have been offered at least one, if not two, genuine opportunities recently... but like hell if I can tell for sure without five rounds of sleuthing and double-checking.

Today's AI marketing spam email thinks I'm not capitalising enough on, uh, also being @premeemohamed.com, apparently. Hmm, I wonder why some of those titles aren't linked to my profile. Truly a mystery.

You have an impressive academic background as a medievalist and PhD student at Cambridge, and you write both young adult and adult fiction with a focus on genre-bending stories exploring friendship, identity, and monstrosity. You have other titles in your bibliography, including The Butcher of the Forest and your YA work. But when I look at your broader author presence on Amazon, I see limited visibility for your full body of work. Your author page does not clearly surface all of your titles, and there is no series branding or cross promotion connecting your books.

Anecdotally, a couple of people I know have tested positive recently or friends and relatives have, after a pause without that. I think summer travel, airports etc are the culprits in some cases. Highly recommend masking while travelling to minimise chances of catching or spreading anything.

Tried to send a parcel to France today. I'd looked it up in advance and had an idea of the costs for different options. The costs they quoted me in the post office started at double the cheapest I'd seen on their website (for in-store prices). Baffling. Didn't post it, will try another method.
