I think also culturally we have a world where even if the govt gives you money for things like childcare, the experience of being a parent is hostility, struggling with systems. We SAY we want more kids but we don't prioritize education or kids' development etc

As someone with two kids it's like, ok, why didn't we have a third? Some of it is financial, some of it is that being pregnant sucks, some of it is that I was too old (2nd kid born when I was 36), some of it is lack of help (we live far from family), some of it just that kids are real hard, man
