Smith is being hurt by the separation referendum (federalists think she is a separatist, and separatists think she is a federalist). Both the UCP and NDP are at 41% support, a 10 point drop for the UCP since Spring. Smith is also more unpopular than Nenshi. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

An underlying problem for the NDP in BC, and it's a possibly fatal one, is that the decision to call an election to keep Conservatives out of power is paradoxical, since the NDP could have accomplished the feat by not having an election. That cannot be the reason by definition.
